Antibiotic help

What antibiotic are you guys using for when you get really bad PIP, knots that are painful?

I pinned some high dose gear with EO in it and got a huge knot on my glute making it painful to sit and do daily things.

Doesn’t happen often, maybe 1-2x a year.

Unless it’s infected, which is rare just manage the inflammation. Using an antibiotic will just create more issues for you to deal with.

Really? He usually prescribes me Ceftin or Bactrim and the next day the swelling is down.

I’m talking like 1-2x a year, rare occasion, bad injection, painful to walk or anything. I usually get them in quads but this one is in glute.

I’ve been icing it constantly but doesn’t seem to be getting better.

If it’s actually infected then one of those are fine and can be helpful, sure. I’ve never once had an infected injection spot personally. I just don’t like seeing guys run to an antibiotic when it’s just healing and inflammation from a bad shot. But if it’s truly infected that’s a different story.

guessing you just watched the Justin Compton video as well ? 😅

How would I know if it’s infected?
It’s a solid knot, painful to the touch.
I’m guessing it is.

Pain, swelling, and what I look for to distinguish is fever, body aches or any red streaks or draining from the site.

To me the fever, body aches and any red irritation or streaks is where I personally would consider an antibiotic. If it’s red and swollen I usually just let it heal and the body do its thing. But again, that’s just me.

Thanks. Any antibiotic u would recommend?

Not much more to say than what BBX has said already said but I think if you have a routine with antibiotics that you do 1-2x year with success than who is to argue. But yeah, no infection than antibiotics would be useless.

At work they use Keflex most for skin but do use Bactrim DS as well. I’m one of three people I have encountered who got an infection from an injection and I’ll keep keflex on hand if/when I get to injecting again.

This. 👆🏻 Either one will work.
