I feel bouncers put up too much of a front. I've never had an issue with a bouncer, seen my friends have one's with them, but because they are a "bouncer" they always like to exaggerate the level of heat they take.

And the OP, that Knight guy has a point. Do you feel better cause you disrespect others?

Sure, plenty of club goers disrespect you and they deserve not being allowed in or whatever the consequence are but you seem like the type of guy to go out of his way to ruin one's night.

First off it was just a funny story from a long time ago when I was young, I havent done that dumb job in a long time.
I had no front, I did the job for extra money because I was broke, I wasnt the guy acting tough or like I had some power trip.
And NO I didnt feel the need to disrespect others, JUST HER.

I did a few gigs as roadie/security for a few bands back in the day.

The most common problem we had is that the bands were supposed to be paid before stepping onstage, but very often the venue owners didn't have the money and were waiting until the end of the night to see if the door would cover all the expenses.

I was the one to negotiate with the guys and tell them the band wouldn't play without the money, but many times they'd just pull a gun and tell me that I was wrong.

Most times we did get paid the entire amount or most of it, but every now and then we'd go home with only the first 30-50% of the entire pay and happy to be alive.

That was in some remote areas of Brazil, back in the 90's.

In Rio, the venue's security were some 13-14 yo kids at the door with AR15's and AK47's. We always got paid there.

Saw many fights in the audience, though... One guy got stabbed in the forehead but I heard he survived. A few others were beaten to death. A friend of mine was kicked in the eye out of nowhere and had to go under surgery. We don't know who did it...

Those are places where wearing a shirt from a rival soccer team is enough to get you killed, so pretty dangerous.

I bounced for over 6 yrs including some very high level security detail in the Washington DC area. I have seen a lot of shit that is entertaining and funny and also seen a lot of shit I wish I did not see..or wished did not happen.

It's really not the good life and the lifestyle wrecks your internal sleep clock and generally puts you around a lot of shady worthless people.


Several minutes after one fight/argument that we prevented, a car of 3 people came around the block from the back with some of the guys that were involved. It pulled up alongside the curb outside the club/bar and asked to apologize to one of the guys involved. A hand was reached out from the car and even though there was still some bickering they shook hands and as soon as their hands locked, the passenger grabbed him with both of his hands and the driver hit the gas....dragging him down the block before he let go and tumbled alongside the pavement. He's lucky he didn't get run over and it was a real dickhead move by the pussies in the car.

We've probably crossed paths at some point.

Between clubs, and people getting shot... and sitting on celebs, lawyers and senators...it definitely isnt the movies. It can be soul sucking.

Rock clubs are fun, not much happens...the rest you can keep.

I was a bouncer for a couple of years. It is not a fun job at all. It changes your perception of people, since you only deal with the 2% assholes and not the 98% normal people.

Apart from the death threats, being ganged up by five people when you are on your own, having assholes come to your house after work, having a gun pulled on you, gang fights with over 10 people swinging, artists bringing their own security wanting to fight you, girls so drunk they piss themselves with their jeans on while lying passed out on the floor, cut up faces from broken glass and the occasional death from a fight it was a lot of fun.

I found you don't need any skills, just the right mind set, and then go with what you have. Which was size, strength and the world's worst attitude for me. I choked out a few people that actually wanted to fight me or each other and other then that just ignored the drunk hero's taunting me. They were allready outside any way.

Not too many problems as we are all over 6’ and 260 plus lbs. But biggest issues we have are kids who cant handle booze. Yes as a door guy I do profile people and choose who to let in.
Pay $40 an hour cash. 4 hours a night.

I do have a full time job, this is just fun side job that pays for my supps and other fun stuff

private parties for various celebraties, private parties, etc...

idk about fun though, it get old all the bs, young guys working that just wana tal to girls, people you cant trust to bac you up when shit pops off, drunk girls/drunk guys hitting on you all night...

the first more serious bouncing job I had was at this bar in boston, in a popular area this was idk back in 2000ish I had just moved back to the area and needed cash so one night went out walking into every place I could find. the next day this guy asks me to come in and talk with him, he wasin change of security for the place, I found out later he had just gotten out of a 7 year bid in a pretty ugly prison up there, its closed now but the place was like a fucking dungeon, lol!

so this guy was was kind like Harvey kitel in bad lutenint, older, short chubby walkin with a limp, looks at my application and is like well, all this doesn't matter, we have a lot of fights and all I require is that you always be there to back up the other guys, shit pops off you be there, I don't care how bad it is, I don't care if your scared, you never go into a situation alone and you always have eachothers backs, if not at the end of the night im gona break your fuckin knees...

you see my limp? this is from a fight last night, you are gona have to dela with this hear so if your not ready for that just don't come back. lol!

that was actually a fun place and a great groupof guys to work with while that maniac was there.

one night after work, a particularly roudy night, one of the guy that worked there was a skinny kid and not security but a bar back, he thought he was a real badass too and started more shit then he resolved, he was an mma fighter and always lookin to show off, sidenote ( one night it was a week night there is a guy who is pretty drunk sitting on a bar stool, not doing anything just nodding off, before I could go up and escort the guy out nicely, this kidruns up and does some crazy wrestling move scooping the guy off his chair and smashing him the the floor on his head, then dragging him out, this true too, litter fucker ) anyway, this kid was fighting with a whole bday party full of people, they waited around after and called more friends. im not really sure how it happened but someone working came in form outside and yelled for allof us to come out quick.

this is downtown boston at 3-4in the morning and a huge goup of guys outside talking shit which quicly turns into a brawl, the manager runs out and yells for us to take off our work shirts so we are not associated with the bar, its winter btw. lol

so we have a goup of about 40 people brawing outside the shirtless people just fucking up drunks left and right and a bunch of cops standing a good ways off just laughing. was a little nerve wracking at the time, but looking bac it was pretty funny, never seen anything like that since.

i worked a bunch of places in CT too, the last was a place called Bar in New Haven, they hired me to clean up the croud, the other guys didnt want to turn away the gang members down the street, lol!

one night this giant black guy comes to the door, i was talking with the manager for a sec, he had shiny metal teeth and dwarfed me, im 6'2" and he was way taller, prob close to 400lbs, too.

had on dark shades and wearing mortocycly gang colors/stuff, he was already in and im the one appointed to get him out... he was cool though, was happy for that one, the some HA's with knives... new haven is a beautiful city.

argentina has been kida cupcake for the most part, never had much trouble here. from what i know brazil is very different in that regard.

I guess if they leave the door cracked that means they are ok w other people coming into the room and watching them..... the ONEEE guy I knew was going to be a problem was... he was about my same size 5'10 220 juiced up and all fckd up on molly n blow... anyways an argument starts going on in one of the rooms and my and my other budd working security run over... This fuckin guy is buck ass naked and going on a drug rampage fucking the room up bc apparently this porn star that was getting rammed didn't want to let this dude in on the action... we wrestled the naked man around the room...eventually after trying to just wrestle him and him being so dam sweaty and jacked up on shit it was impossible... I had no choice but to give him a good knee and KO him bc he was just too fckn strong and jacked up on drugs to try to control... have fought countless times, but naked sweaty hi guy was a first hahahhaha...

Let's see... Boston, CT and Jersey it was between 2001 and 2004, I guess. Boston had this club in a huge basement, forgot the venue's name. It was downtown.

Also, Vision in Saugus MA, Liquid Club in Leominster MA, Holiday Inn in Somerville, Tuxedo Junction in Danbury CT, Carioca Club in Hartford, and many gigs in Newark and Jersey City.

Florida from 2006 thru 2008. Miami wasn't too frequent. More like Deerfield, Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale. Few things in Orlando and Jupiter. Don't remember the names now...

I worked as a bouncer for 2 years after my son was born, had its fun nights but most of the time by the end of the night I was just done talking to anyone.

One night a wedding party showed up, nothing too big of a deal except they were all still dressed from the wedding, including the bride in her big ass wedding dress (can't make that shit up). About 2 hours later I see husband and best man doing the slow rotation room scan, so I walk up and ask them what they're looking for, which I already knew the answer to but wanted to see the look on their faces when they acknowledge they lost the bride in that big fucking dress.

I tell them to wait right there and head straight to the bathroom where I figured they'd be and walk in (after announcing myself) and ask the attendant if there was a girl in a brides dress in here. She says "Oh yeah, they've been over there puking for a while", I go around to the stalls and I see this wedding dress sticking out from one of the stalls. The bride and her friend are sharing a toilet and the bride has puke in her hair, apparently from the friend that couldn't wait her turn and they are laughing between puke sessions. I walk up and let them know they have a couple of not so happy guys looking for them and ask if either can walk. The friend stands up and says "I can but she's drunk" and starts laughing again and falls over.

At this point I'm not happy about what I know I'm about to have to do but I have to get them out. So I lean down and pick up the puke covered bride and tell the friend to hang on to me and I walk them out. When I hand them over to the guys the girls both start laughing and tell the guys that they're not getting any tonight and they are going to have take care of the kids in the morning because they won't be getting up with them. At this point the husband drops the bride on the ground and walks out with his friend in tow like they are actually going to leave these girls there.

I radio to the front and tell the guys to stop them and make them wait until the girls get outside which made them even more pissed off. When I get out front with the girls the guys I work with proceed to laugh their asses off and tell the guys to collect their baggage. I'm sure that marriage lasted a very long time.

A couple stories...

Wrestlers used to work the door at house parties off campus. Made some cash on the side with my teammates. Will share two quick stories, one funny and one I'll never forget.

#1 - Worked the door at a Halloween party. Everyone had on silly costumes. We dressed up like those rappers from the 90s (I'm dating myself) that wore backwards jerseys and hats (stupid I know, but we were 21 and it was Halloween). Tall, heavy-set guy walks up, looks at me with disgust and says "Ain't payin no fu*kin punk like you" - and pushes me aside with one hand. I threw the left - my strongest punch - and hit him square on the jaw. Lights out, guy is done.

Not even close. Guy looks me dead in the eye - more offended than hurt - and takes both hands, wraps them around my neck, lifts me off my feet and slams me against the house. I couldn't breathe or break his grip. Guy had massive hands and was strong as hell (I was around 200 lbs at the time and he lifted me like it was nothing). Fortunately, people jumped in and broke it up. If not for them - I was done. I laugh about it now but it could've ended badly. Also hurts the ego when you hit a guy with a clean shot and he barely blinks...

# 2 - We threw out some punk that was grabbing girls' asses, picking fights and spilling beer everywhere. Asked nicely at first but he wasn't going quietly. We literally picked him up, carried him out and tossed him on the front lawn in front of everyone. Kid hit the ground hard. He starts screaming about how he's coming back tomorrow to kill us. Whatever, we thought.

You guessed it...he actually comes back the next night. Some balls on this kid. We're working the door again. Told him to leave before he gets hurt. I made the dumb mistake - still can't believe I did this - of turning my back on him, thinking he was no threat. Then I woke up in the ER, nose broken, teeth missing, gashes and bruises on my face. My gf was next to me, crying. "What happened?," I asked. She told me that as soon as I turned my back the kid cracked me in the back of the head, which knocked me cold, and I fell straight down the steps - face first. Nothing to break my fall. Doctor told me he's seen guys die from getting KO'ed in street fights - not from the actual punch, but the fall. I was lucky...

Had some good memories, too. But those nights stand out.
