I've had good results both ways. Make sure you exfoliate prior (like what was mentioned) and follow the instructions provided to ensure you don't get spray tan on the palms of your hands.

i agree with the airbrush statement, my Ex gf used to have me spray her all the time, i actually got quite good at it. the booths always made her look like shit.
if you have a GF and ur looking to do this regularly hit up EBAY and buy a air brush spray tan kit.
Before pay special attention to scrubbing your hands feet knees n elbows. moisturise these a little to stop the tan grabbing.. Also after tanning..moisturise daily to keep it nice and keep up with exfoliation but gently..just so you tan fades at an even rate..if you let your skin cells build up it goes patchy. I tan myself all the time and get spray tans for night out or a change x
Call the company doing the spray tan to check if any soaps or bodywashes will mess with the tan and how you should prep your skin. I used Liquid Sun Rayz (they sponsored the show) and ordered a package deal where they sent their exfoliating products, washes and skin prep products to use in advance to ensure that you color would come out right. Everyone at the show who followed their skin prep guidelines had great color while some people who didn't do the scrub and exfoliate had more of an uneven color where the color took to skin better in some areas than others.
