Any way to profit from gasoline?

OK, gas prices will be going up at the pump again due to problems in the middle east(supposedly) Every time this gouging takes place the oil companies announce record profits! How can the average joe get a piece of these record profits. Will investing 5K in the oil companies bring big profits? Should the money be invested with some foreign oil producers? Is it even possible to profit on the coming increased gasoline prices we will surely see in the coming weeks? All feedback much appreciated.

you can trade all sorts of commodities, from the gasoline futures posted to a wide array of sweet crude etc..

Just remember to do your analysis. The old saying with investing is "buy the rumor, sell the news" In other words now that all the shit with Iran is already well documented news the market has already reacted to it. if you invest you are betting on things either getting worse or better depending if you take a short or long position.

very nice post. It also reminds to say for those folks who always bitch and complain why are gas prices so high? Why doesn't the president do something about the prices? We have a shitty government. That fact is that a huge factor that is never taken into account before people start bitching is that "speculation" is what drives gas prices almost every single time. NOT the president or who ever. And the hundreds of millions of dollars that the 4 big gas companies made in profits a few years ago was not because the president was in bed with them. BUT BECAUSE OF THE EARLY GAS BUYING FRENZY, HENCE "SPECULATIONS". Gas is a commodity also. And when brokers see the price of something getting ready to inflate, they buy a whole lot of to get it at a low price ahead of the jump. THIS is what drives gas prices up.

I'm sure there is a bit more to it. But this is basically the nutshell of the answer to why gas options are good to buy right now. Especially with Iran holding back on it's gas to certain countries.
