im curious about how deeply they delve into your personal life - as i may have to invest some considerable time in covering my tracks.. ya know, gear-related and such.

I don’t know what CDCR is but corrections is a real shit job. One of the highest suicide rates in the nation among jobs.

I know a bunch of dudes who have worked those jobs and still do. I know you mentioned a local lockup but regardless you’re in with the worst of the worst. The ratios on the pods are usually 1 officer to like 20 inmates. And you’re locked in with nothing but handcuffs and pepper spray (if that)
No phones.
Not sure what Cali is like but the ones where I know people who have worked, they don’t allow you to bring anything in including food so you’re eating whatever is at the prison cafeteria.

OP- Lastly, you were triggered by my post about cali being perceived as the hardest (heresay) because you are an aspiring co @ CDCR .It is the hardest toughest most gangster penal system in the United States. BY FAR most politics and most militant. I caution you to grow up and drop the pretend macho stuff. You will get turnt out quickly if you even ever get accepted, by every race in there. ECC have a huge car (look those terms up since you are totally naive to equip yourself) and have a greenlight on COs. They have killed and tortured numerous COs in California already. If you are an asshole to certain inmates, even lower level - a wila (learn that word you will need to know it rookie) will get sent to the big homeys. big homeys will greenlight you. you are now a target at work and a trophy. surenos do not attack COs but it DOES happen once in a while. BLACKS get off on CO's frequently same with OTHERS. If they cannot access you directly once greenlighted, A Mexican or white or black legend can and will send a hit from Pelican Bay, High Desert, Corcoran SHU on your family on the outs (look that term up) and wacc your family. Are you going to learn nahuatl and Swahili to understand what these legends (who control the entire streets of cali and prison gangs also) are saying when communicating to each other?

look up what a level 4 180 yard is, the politics there and what happens, and pray you never get stationed there.

Took lie detector. They asked about aas and called me out for lying then called me at 7 am the next day to ask again. I kept denying saying only prohormomes...guess I passed since I was offered a job. Also they caught that I put on some form I smoked weed 2x then said 3 in person. Asked me why I lied I told them I didn't I have no clue if it was 2 or 3 times it was in college.

Asked if I have social media I said yes but don't use...Asked if I had a password I said yes...he said "cool mind logging on my PC so I can check it out". I actually couldn't because I didn't remember it but still offered job. Don't remember the physical but it was basically cake unless your 15% + using glp or a mass monster who can't run it should be a piece of cake. That's all I remember just use common sense watch the detector test and make sure your answers match application should be good.

A lot of corrections officers are guys who couldn’t become real cops and just want the benefits of being a cop.
I’ve seen a lot of low life’s with sketchy pasts become corrections officers.
If you watch the news or read the news you’ve seen it too with the guards sneaking in drugs or having sex with inmates or the one lady in Alabama helped the inmate escape and tried to start a life together after getting him out

CDCR is not a jail. It is the CA prison system, meaning that convictions consist of a year or more. I interned for CDCR’s office of legal affairs for a year, where I evaluated employee misconduct, working with their attorneys as a legal assistant (I’m a law student).

They’re desperate for officers, and for good reason. It’s a tough job, and the turnover is high. They are expediting applications so if you don’t have much dirt on your record you’ve got a great shot. OT is plentiful if you want to work. Earning potential is decent.

also the adenoma surgery that i had last year would be difficult to explain if i am going to claim that ive never used steroids.

i plan on getting a script for TRT so i can be legit and at least try to explain away my 'grossly abnormal' anatomy

Any background investigator who calls your tail "grossly abnormal anatomy " is just jealous. And them constantly asking about "veterinary" steroid abuse is just outright species profiling.

Best bet is to blame it all on a nut allergy.

well the goal is to be placed at the local jail - which is right down the street from where i currently work.

im not really trying to be a prison guard.. rather a jail guard - where people are just trying to keep their heads down and do their shorter stints

Every prisoner starts off in the county jail to be honest there worst and often more dangerous just for the fact they don’t get the movement or activities that they get in the state prison . But that guy that got double life will often be held in the county jail for years before sentenced .

That’s definitely not true in New Jersey but some do sneak through . I worked with a guy that had 2 degrees one as an English major but couldn’t get a job in his field was married and needed the benefits . The job isn’t bad lots of forced overtime but when it’s all down the pension is worth it . Most officers will use it as a stepping stone to law enforcement but after 5 years are at top pay and with tons of overtime are comfortable and just don’t leave .

The oral interview and background will be the hardest part , they don’t care about your medical history , only that you pass the physical they send you too , on background the use of recreational drugs will come up just be honest , the 30 year old that smoked weed when 16 will be different then the 21 year old that smoked when 20 .

Honestly I don’t think you have will much trouble getting hired. I knew many guys who ended working for the department of corrections in CA and most were psychopaths or very dumb .

If I were you I would try to go sheriff and they work 1 or 2 yrs in the jail. I have never met anyone who enjoys being a CO.
