I've been looking for some squat variations that don't put a lot of pressure on my lower back which back squats seem to.

I'm wondering about giving these a run with a weighted vest on.

Anyone try em
 
Ashoprep only does sissy squats. Or something like that.
 
I use sissy squats in place of leg extensions in my routines usually...I would hardly consider it a "squat" movement and no way a substitute for back squats.
 
I do the John Meadows variation on the Hack machine that he was doing in the video with Tom Platz... these aren't going to be the primary quad movement, but they are a great (low back safe) addition to a leg routine.

Have you looked into belt squats as an alternative?

Oh gotcha! But I'm telling you brother, those little demons Meadows was doing are bad ass! I bring my feet close together and my vastus lateralis gets lit up...

If you have a v-squat machine try one leg squats on it but don't do all your reps for each set in a row... I was doing sets of 10 but using a weight above my 10RM on it by doing 6 reps on each leg and then going back to the first and doing 4reps on each leg with no rest between each leg or portion of the broken set.

You can also change it up by using the low handles on a trap bar and doing squats like that. You can even take it really low by using all 25s instead of 45s or 100s. You'll definitely have to strap in tight because grip will likely be the limiting factor on these...
 
Hell yeah I do them, you can do an infinite number of variations. Foot placement/leaning in particular directions etc etc.

I typically do them instead of leg extensions, as previously stated.
 
I like sissy hack squats
 
Instead of a vest, you can also hold a plate on your chest while holding on to something solid with the other hand for balance.
 
I dont know about sissy squats but...

I have degenerative disk disease in my lumbar from a motorcycle accident and had almost given up doing squats unit someone posted a video of box squats

I found that box squats took the pressure off my lower back and still aloud me to go relatively heavy with out messing me up for days afterwards

Squats are back on the menu and im loving it

Here's an leg specialization routine out of one of Darden's old books using sissy squats:

- Leg Extensions - 1 1/4 reps
- Leg Curls - 1 1/4 reps
- Sissy Squats with dumbbells
- Sissy Squats with bodyweight

No rest between exercises and all exercises taken to failure performed twice per week.

I use them in my routine but dont do them every workout.
If you can do them properly they are a very useful tool.
 
I have the same problem cuz my lower back is fucked from years of roofing and MMA injuries. Hack squats saved my quads
