I think the quote was from lee haney. But anyway anyone else here train this way and still get good results? Me personally, I always believed to see results you need some sort of level of strength progression. But since i have a bad back now, i can't train heavy with certain exercises so instead i have to get creative with my workouts.

I always train as uncomfortably comfortable as I can.

It makes sense to me.

Training to failure zaps the body's resources. Its hard on you. Mix it up, you can make gains for a while going just short of failure.

Has any one here heard of "periodization"? I just read something about it a little while ago, it's this new fad that has been taking off lately, apparently athletes have been getting wicked gains from incorporating this wacky strategy into their training program.

It works well and is the only way to go. If youre experienced you can go mostly by how you feel, but if youre relatively new you can follow a set plan. Even being experienced, having a set plan is good but be willing to alter it according to how you feel. the worst thing you can do is force yourself to do something when it ends up working against you. As you gain experience you will gain a sense of intuition.
