Anyone ever try DNA testing from Muscle Genes?

Hi have used DNAFIT here in the UK and they do something similar

My results were interesting - points of note I got back

My muscle fibre make up was 55/45 Power to Endurance training
I should avoid burnt meats
I may be suspeptible to arthiritis
few other things of note

It also went in to whethere I am a carb burner - my body type suggest I shoyld have High Protein Med Fat

There was a few other things - but overall the only thing I was surprised about was the 55/45 split. I have since changed my trainin where I focus on my first compund training for the 5 rep range for 3 reps and then I move to a 6x6 or 8x8 rep scheme / setps where I select a weight where I have to reach 6x6 or 8x8 with no more than 20 deep breaths between each set...

I have never done more endurance / volume work before ever - as I felt in the HIT / DC line of traininng but since changing I have noticed a far fuller muscle and have added a relative fair amount of size.

I just had to challenge my thought that HIT wasnt the only way and my body was a little more complex then I thought.

I have emailed the company referenced and asked if its similar to the DNAFIT test - but if its not I may take this one as well.

To me genetic testing is key for individual training - as it tells us so much more

This sounds like snake oil. I wouldn't spend a dime on something like this.

I dont beleive its snake whole tbh - the whole genetic testing arena has alot of value - the issue I feel is that the current tests offered are limited and the translation of data is extremely cursory. We are at the embryonic stages of this kind of commercially available testing....

Received my kit today. The pricing a less than transparent. They do NOT pay for shipping back. It cost me another $16 to ship international to the UK -- and a little bit of a hassle for the USP Store guy to figure everything out.

Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with the price. I just hate when companies are sneaky. Just price the kit at $150 and include everything. This is much easier on the customer.

Typical saliva test kit. They don't require much of a sample. Just be sure to follow the directions carefully so the sample is not compromised.

For those interested, the first YouTube video on their main page is actually very informative -- and the girl is pretty hot.

I'm sorry, I'll a little hesitant with this.


I'm only saying this because I spent time and $$$ on 23andme.com to learn the science of how they do everything. 23andme is basically mapping like 1% of your genome...not 99%...And they do this juuust by saliva.


But is this saliva or blood? 23andme has tons of info and results to sift through as well as 100's of millions of dollars invested into the company. THIS doesn't and everything from the "how it works" to their regular website info is iffy.

And from what I know, muscle fiber distribution (which they are trying to do with 55/45 power to endurance results) WITHOUT a muscle biopsy OR proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy is impossible.

I'm hoping someone super smart chimes in there.

I never received their initial email with the personalized survey. I contacted them several times and still nothing. Not impressed at all with their service. Not sure how they can make recommendations if they don't even know my goals. I'm not expecting much at this point, so hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised with the information when I get their report.

Nope, keep in mind they said December 11, and today is the 7th and also a Sunday, so I expect them in the coming week.

Im going to order this today if funds allow since it is around christmas time, but i hope to get this done as ive done the 23andme as well, that is the one Phill will read for u.... I have not had him read mine yet but had planned on it soon

Thanks man.... Yeah i was wondering how much it cost to ship it back.....

Any specifics anyone should be aware of concerning what not to do prior to doing this test such as no caffeine etc...?

The instructions just say to not eat or drink anything an hour before. BTW, the owner of the company got back to me. He resent the email with the survey. I'm all set now and just waiting until the end of the month for my results.

I just ordered 2 kits a few days ago. One for myself and my wife. Does anyone that has submitted their kits want to share how to properly do it? Or if there is anything they don't tell you that is important that we need to know and the actual process? I also thought their questionnaire was generic in the fact that it did not have bodybuilding as any of the options. Or it says when you train, do you train for power or strength. How about I train to build muscle and recruit fast twitch muscle fibers? LOL Thanks for any feedback as I appreciate it.

Shelby talked about DNA testing with this professional guy on Blue Collar muscle but I couldn't understand the name the guy mentioned. He mentioned some place that apparently were the real deal and he had his NFL, UFC, and.. use them. He mentioned that $99 tests didn't test over everything I believe.

I would not mind getting it done even if it was a bit more expensive.

When your register your kit, there's a simple video to watch. When you take to the Post Office, I would mention it has a liquid in it. They were all uptight about it.
