Went to get a routine EKG today, doctor reads it tells me I have a complete right bundle branch block. He told me it was nothing to worry about. Apparently there are two types, pathological which is caused by cad, cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension etc. Then there is physiological which falls under the category of "Athletes heart". Apparently 80 % of athletes or people who train regularly have EKG changes when compared to a normal person. This research article summed it up nicely:
( Despite these findings, no athlete with CompleteRBBB or IncompleteRBBB was found to have pathologic structural cardiac disease. In conclusion, among trained athletes, CRBBB and IRBBB appear to be markers of a structural and physiological cardiac remodeling triad characterized by RV dilation, a relative reduction in the RV systolic function at rest, and interventricular dyssynchrony.)
With this being so prevalent I wondered if anyone has been diagnosed or may want to get an EKG. I had zero symptoms of anything and after reading there is no need for concern, which I am very happy about. It's is still very interesting.
