Anyone tried taping mouth before sleep?

My opinion, sleeping naturally is the best way to sleep. Look at environment, mattress, lighting, white noise, MJ, melatonin, all kinds of factors that can be manipulated before needing a machine or to take heavy medications, or tape mouth lol

What exactly is that? I'm not a large guy so wouldn't consider a machine but worries I would have, what If someone becomes used to it then insurance steps in and makes it not affordable? I've seen this happen with medication and the machines being tracked and denied when they see you aren't using it frequent enough. I'm someone who can't sleep on my back.
 
Thanks fellas. You convinced me. I’m gonna get tested. Like Hevi-Head, I often feel sedated throughout the day and can literally fall asleep instantly under even the least ideal sleeping conditions where most people would be like “How the fuck did he fall asleep through that?”.
That was me and it’s 100% different now.
I would literally grab a few winks standing up and leaning over a print table.
I’d get to work and set my phone for a couple minutes and doze off before gonna in. And always napped at lunch… it sucked

Do you do bloodwork? Elevated rbc is a good indicator of sleep apnea, but things like eq can also increase this as well. I once heard a doctor on a podcast say that if your neck is 18 inches or above when they it’s muscular or fat, there’s an 85 percent chance you have sleep apnea. And it’s more likely in a muscular neck. Essentially….all larger and even some smaller body builders have apnea

Not as often as I should. It’s been over a year at least.
 
Yeah, some of my friends also try it and they told me that its result was great, they do it because they want to be far away from the habit of snoring and to stop bad breath.
 
Mouth taping works awesome. Only downside is you need to shave right before bed every night. The tape won't stick if there is any stubble at all.

I work in healthcare, do not do this unless you like playing Russian roulette with your life.
If your airway is being occluded from excessive weight causing apnea, taping your mouth is like running into a burning building with a tank of gasoline to put it out.

Nice theory, but totally incorrect. I have a significant reduction in apnic events and my spO2 is significantly higher throughout the entire night when I mouth tape.
I also have a TAP3 mandibular advancement appliance (fabricated by a dental sleep specialist) that I use when I want to grow a beard. The appliance doesn't work nearly as well as the mouth tape to reduce apnic events and increase oxygen saturation.
 
It sounds reasonable to me, I would rather tape my girls mouth shut at bedtime. She doesn’t say much all day until bedtime. Ahhh
Hahahhah i feel the same way! Its always when your tryin to sleep the questions start rolling in! 🤣

Apparently I’m a very loud snorer and it often bothers the woman that sleep with me. They will go sleep on the couch in the living room…
I used to be able to fall asleep anywhere any time but it hasn’t been as bad recently. I’m just really against hooking something up to face all night..

I use an oral appliance. It pulls your lower jaw forward a little to prevent apneas. It is not effective for severe or central sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with mild( about 5 episodes/hour). Now I only have 1 or 2 episodes the whole night. I purchased mine through American Sleep Dentistry.

Are these sleep docs you're talking to? As a physician myself, I'd caution you to take what physicians say with a grain of salt. Just because they are a physician doesn't make their word gospel. They are not subject matter experts on everything, and many of them have huge egos and think they know more than they do.

Mouth taping has safely allowed me to achieve the intended therapeutic result.
 
I tried the CPAP and its like a leaf blower hooked on your face plus I'm a side sleeper. I have thrown that thing many times and eventually threw it away/ They auto send supplies like its candy and had boxes of supplies.

Anyone here find an alternative to this leaf blower?

You need to read ur sleep study - I had zero apneas while sleeping on my left side, zero on my stomach, 4 on my right side and 70 plus while sleeping on my back - so i bought a backpack designed so you cannot sleep on ur back - I feel good but I have not had a sleep study done with it on

100% agree on the gospel and ego comments. Many people forget that they practice in their field not lead it lol

I won’t discredit its effectiveness. I’m simply putting it out there that people should be cautious before closing off their airways on a hunch it may improve their sleep quality.

I might just be jaded because my sleep quality is trash and I’ve been lazy to do a sleep study on myself lol.
