Are bodybuilders "Athletes"?

A football player wether he is on steroids or not is being paid millions of dollars to play football, he gets injured on the field. You feel bad for him, they carry him off. Later on he comes back on the field and you cheer like crazy for him. You say "damn that guys a hell of an athlete". But what you refuse to agree to or listen to is that he went back to the dressing room, got injected with anti-inflammatory roids and was sent back into the game!

Later on he retires from football and gets into the hall of fame! Did he really deserve to be in the hall of fame? Or should they put on the pedestal where his head (bust) should be a sculpture of the needle and roids he took for years everytime he got injured and need a little extra help!? See my point?

There is a difference between corticosteroids and steroids, between recovery from injury and performance enhancing.

Perhaps an example that clears up where my opinion comes from, Barry Bond would still be a decent and known baseballplayer without steroids, Arnold however, where would he be now without steroids

I can see both sides....

I'd say anyone who isn't a pro bodybuilder is just athletic....just like a flag football player is athletic....but we're not athletes. Anyone who isn't on the pro level is just athletic or giving an exhibition....tempting to show what the real pro's do/achieve.

That would be like saying someone who buys a 69 mustang, spends thousands of hours sanding and painting....then on the weeks leading up to the regional car show....he spends another 100 hours detailing it....is that an athlete?? (Yes, I know, dieting takes more than 100 hours).

I also don't think people such as golfers, curlers and all the other non super aerobic, super fast (baseball), super sight/coordination or getting beat down sports as athletes either.

But of course, I tell my kids I'm an athlete. And I'm first to call a middle/high school kid who plays a sport every semester and summer league soccer an athlete. And you usually call someone who takes karate all through school...a kid who takes karate.

It's all just who's opinion you want to hear and what you're used to calling people.

Shit I think I am an athlete, I still wrestle, I can still bust a standing full twist as I am still a decent gymnast, shit I can prolly still dunk, and I still suit up in full pads to play ball every once in a while. So I guess that goes back to say some athletes are bb'ers.
