People here certainly seem to believe that there was malicious intent and knowledge of the consequences on the part of the parents. I fail to see that. Earlier someone was talking about obese parents feeding their kids crap and them getting diabetes, do you think those parents are doing it on purpose or are they just ignorant/stupid/spineless? Everyone here on this board should understand how little the average person understands about nutrition, hell even we only do our best to understand what at this stage in the game of investigative nutritional science is still something of a shot in the dark. These two idiots probably had no idea that they weren't meeting the dietary needs of the child. They fed it, it shut up, later on it cried some more...repeat. You know that a cheeseburger isn't exactly what you should be eating, but you can still fill up on one. Parents also probably didn't have a sensitive enough scale to weigh the baby on, and may have thought everything was fine until maybe the baby stopped eating or some other obvious sign appeared. What we have here is an extreme case of ignorance coupled with a large degree of stupidity. How many teenage girls do you know who think it's perfectly nutritious to eat a rice cake/salad/nothing for dinner. Was the baby able to communicate clearly to the parents that it's dietary needs weren't being met? Seriously, it is horrible what happened to this child, but I think the jails would be better filled with people who murder, rape, assault, drive drunk, commit other serious crimes. Not filled up with stupid, ignorant people who couldn't conceive of what they were doing.
