This must be read in Arnold voice:

"Back in the day, me and Franco used to try and pump each other up before work outs. I remember one squat day Franco and I had a heavy squat work out prepared for the day. I was taking a nap and Franco woke me up to work out by giving me a protein shake. Then he preceeded to open up the drawer of his desk. He dangled his testicles in the drawer and slammed the drawer shut two or three times! I was so surprised, I said 'Franco what are you doing?' "Intensity is the key to squats" he said. "Come on now, your turn." I walked over to the drawer and hesitently dropped my large testicles into the drawer. With my eyes closed, Franco slammed the drawer two or three times. "AAAAAArg!"My testicles blew up like a grapefruit. Listen to me here! The squat work out was the most intense workout yet. Believe me, all you pencil necks, I cannot tell you the feeling of power we got from squating with black and blue testicles filled with fluid."

I mean they wouldn't intentionally lie would they?
they wouldn't send us skipping down the wrong path would they?

I tried it this morning and it does NOT work!!! I must admit however that now both ball's are the same size and they both hang down the same distance!
 
Don't know if this is true, but Arnold & Franco were the hardest training bodybuilders ever. Just finished reading Arnold's book and he did 18+ workouts a weeks if you include cardio. His mind only envisioned the set he was in, none of the other sets mattered at that time

This is exactly what confuses me. Back then people worked out everyday and sometimes two times a day doing workouts 4 hours long and still grew like trees. I mean, today its been proven that eod workouts is the best way for optimum growth. So how is it that these guys grew so big overtraining?

We'll, he said he split his workouts into morning and evening so he could maintain maximum intensity.

But he still ran through the whole body in 2 days and then started the split over. The book had a picture of him when he hadn't even trained for a year yet in a front double bicep and he still looked huge

kind of makes you wonder if they would've been bigger/stronger if they would've paid more attention to recovery.
 
I've said this before. I believe it was in their nutrition that got them there. Also a lot of the foods they ate or drank were not as highly processed as our foods today, shit just look at all the trouble you have trying to get real whole milk straight from the farm!!!! Too many chemicals and preservatives these days and I can't help but believe it has a detrimental effect on growth. Just my theory!!

i think this is true as well. one of the reasons i'm glad my father in law owns cattle, and i get a lot of my meat as well as fresh farm eggs from them. still trying to convince them to buy a damned milk cow though :D

In my day, I would breathe in the nucleus of Franco's Fart just to get the intensity I needed to get that last rep. What about you and your pipe cleaner arms!"
 
Alot of those stories you hear about training for 6 hours+ are bs. Don't believe what's printed in the magazines, and this is coming from guys I talked to who actually lived during that era.

They didn't train 6 hours, but if you include cardiovascular+abs/calves, some probably did over 4 hours a day.
 
Some of you guys are making it sound like this was back during the
mid evil times. They didn't train any different then they do now. Only
thing thats changed is the equipment. They all had there own style
some would do 15 sets per part and others 4 to 6. Never heard
of training for 6 hours though

Ever seen some of the old video clips of them training. It was a bullshit session and some training was thrown in between all the talking and fucking around. I've read several times that Arnold would stop mid workout and go fuck some hot fitness girls in the back room then come back to his workout? 6 hours at the gym...sure...but probably less than 2 training.
 
I have been reading a biography about Arnold called "fantastic" and along with alot of other bs, it does state that he trained with weights up to 6 hours a day, but he was taking 5 to 10 minutes of rest in between sets alot of the time. as far as overtraining and nutricion in the "good ol' days" goes, my opinion is its all trainer specific, every bodybuilder had his own style that seemed to work for them. I think its bullshit that as far advanced as we are supposed to be in the world of exercise, they can still take 5 billion people and narrow them down into three basic catagories of body types
 
hey at least you can rest assured the Darwin award candidates that try this method of training wont be reproducing hahaha
