Article Request-Uploading Video/Photos onto Web

Just a request for a good article for all the noobs here and people who are wanting to know how to upload photos and videos from their digital cameras/video cameras/etc..onto the web. I have some video on VHS tape that I recently copied onto my computer but I am not sure of the best format to save it in. I did this on a Mac so I just saved it as quicktime. But I've heard people mention MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Div-x and I don't know which is best for a small size and excellent quality.

All of these you mention are variable compression ratios. Mpeg and ALL of the others depend upon what you decide to compress them at. Look at it this way in the simplest form, you have a bitmap pic and it is 500k. You convert to a jpg an suddenly the pick is 28k. Now take in consideration the audio as a wav file. 3 minutes = roughly 15meg. Compress this into an mp3 format and suddenly you are at 2.5-3 megs. This is how compression works. So now we'll take in consideration a divx avi which works on this principal. We convert all frames of a movie from wav & bmp to mp3 and jpg and all of a sudden you get a very high quality audio video at a compressed state and 1/3 the size or less. Granted there are some things in between, but this is the general idea. Hope you all can understand as I drink my Captain Morgan and Cokes....
