I also gave astragalus and taurine to my dog who had heart failure and then kidney failure. It was last ditch to simply try to help, but I wouldn’t hesitate to give it to my dogs early.

He is my dude, my guy, my best friend, and I know I will out live him, but if I can do anything keep as healthy, and happy as I can until that day comes, I will do it. Fuck id probably give him one of my own damn kidneys if it needed it and it were possible lol.

Most people wont shell out the cash for ultimate gold joint for themselves let a lone a dog, its not a flex, it is just that Labs get bad hips, and I have already lived through the pain of watching our family golden retriever develop it, and ultimately die from it when I was a kid.

While I am not a Vet, I do know a lot about dogs as I selected and trained working K9s for the USMC, was a K9 LEO for a bit, and helped run a kennel of some of the highest quality protection dogs in the country. The wife and I still have a kennel on our farm that offers day care, boarding, and fosters older dogs in their decline and young pups until they find their forever homes. I have watched a dog recover from a lifelong neurodegenerative disorder that nearly had it crippled to thriving and chasing frisbees over the course of six weeks from nothing more than a dietary change.

You didn't mention anything about your dogs diet or general health. How old is he/she? Any health conditions other than the kidney disease? Overweight? How many times a day does he / she eat? What do you feed him/her? What other supplements do you provide? Breed (yes, certain breeds are susceptible to specific conditions and diets that treat illness can be breed specific).

Lastly, you asked what else will help. Probiotics can help K9 kidney disease quite a bit. Check out a product called Azodyl.

I got the idea for astragalus from this website after my elderly chihuahua wasn’t doing too hot with her kidneys. She was weak, unsteady, wouldn’t drink water or eat food … the astragalus seemed to help a lot, she seems 1-2 years younger ever since I’ve been giving it to her. Haven’t followed up with bloodwork but subjectively it’s been worth every penny.

I’ve had good results giving them ubiquinol, too.

I do half a capsule with my Doberman. 250mg. I’m not a vet, but mine said just to keep amounts lower to avoid any GI stress. I know a lot about human health, but trust my vet with animal stuff.
