Before you fall for "upgrading" your 2g iPhone to the new "so much better" 3g iPhone, make damn sure that the area you will be using the phone in even has a fucking 3g network to start with.

My wife "upgraded" my old iPhone with the new 3g phone and we live 30 miles away from the nearest 3g towers. Needless to say, I'm pretty damn pissed that I am paying for something I can't/won't ever be able to use.
 
yea, most people don't realize that even most at&t employees. The only ones that really pay attention are the tech guys that work for them in the field. I know this because I worked with them. Oh, and feel lucky here in WV damn near the whole state doesn't have 3g.
 
Thats pretty sad if the people working at the store dont even know that. I think under those circumstances if you were not told that the upgraded 3g phone didnt work in your area becuase of no service they would let you out of your contract. How can you legally be asked to pay for a service they cannot provide????
 
why's it their fault that you didnt do the research to figure out you couldnt access that service in your area? its a business, not a charity, they'll make money where and how they can...maybe one day unicef will get into the cell phone business, but until then....

this took approx. 30 sec. to find on their websiteby using the search function, and you can click the link under the map to show where 3g coverage is available....chalk this one up to experience i guess, but i think its wrong to say they are scamming you, you will still recieve the 3g coverage if you travel to those areas

Thanks for the Unicef message there Kevin Nealon. You sure you don't have to swat a fly on your counter or something?

Here are the details:
1.) Wife bought the phone for me as a Valentines Day gift.
2.) Went to the store before activating to ask all sorts of questions about speed and usefulness.
3.) I was told the phone would be faster not only using 3g, but also on wireless internet connections (a flat out lie)
4.) I was sent out of the store to go home and activate said phone by myself. No one offered to pull the SIM card out and do it for me. It took a day and a half and lots of time on the phone with AT&T to even get the thing activated.
5.) I went to the coverage area link you mention only after the 3G symbol never lit up on my phone.
6.) In a room full of people with cell phones I am ALWAYS the only one that has no signal and can't use their phone!!!!

I don't mean to sound angry at you. I really appreciate the time you took to post. AT&T did nothing to dissuade me from walking out with this phone, even after I voiced concern with the 3G feature.

Dont they give you 30 days to return it? Might want to look into it. Even if its passed the 30 days.....or maybe they only offer 15 days....but if you bitch enough I'm sure you can get your way. I got out of my contract with them once just by bitching (In a respectfull way) Worth a try bro.

hahaha, im glad you got that quote...

you didnt say that all of this transpired in an actual brick and mortar store, i figured your wife saw something about it online/ or got an email and upgraded you without reading all the fine print or something... that is bullshit then, that store should have informed you for sure, i would do like NPC said and go bitch at them..

I walked in there with the attitude that I was not going to take NO for an answer....I made that clear with them to but in a very respectfull way. Worked for me....prob didnt hurt that I out weighted everyone in the store by 30-40 lbs lol
 
I purchased all my cell phone stuff on credit card. I bought a phone and it broke at 40 days. Return was 30 days. I tried exchange it for the same one and they would not. One day some new person was working at the store about at day 50. I said can I leave this phone with you because it does not work and can you have the manager call me to take care of this. A few days went bye and of coarse nobody called. So I called the credit card company and said I payed for a product, I do not have and that the store has it and so they credited my account.
