Autoimmune disease Granuloma Annulare

A close relative of mine has been diagnosed with Granuloma Annulare, a autoimmune skin condition. The lesions have by now spread over the whole body. She‘s been doing UV light baths at the hospital to help, but no success as of now. Doctors don‘t seem to be very knowledgeable on this particular disease here, next step would probably be corticosteroid injections.

We have so many smart members here, does anyone have experience with this particular diagnosis? Any recommendations for treatment, supplements, dietary recommendations etc.?

Not sure where this person is at or what hospital they're going to but if it's not a major hospital or research hospital look for one. I'm in California and we have UCSF and Stanford. I wouldn't leave the treatment of a rare disease in the hands of just any doctor.

The Mayo Clinic says treatment options include oral and injectable corticosteroids, malaria medication, light therapy, and cryotherapy. Retinoids may be indicated as well, but typically treatment isn’t necessary other than for cosmetic reasons and symptoms go away on their own, and can flare up again later

Thanks Bio, appreciate the feedback. Located in Europe, been researching the best dermatology clinic in the country and hoping they might be of more help than the current research hospital she’s at.

Cheers man. Yeah I read the same article, I believe corticosteroids might be the next approach they’ll try since the light therapy isn’t giving the expected results. I was also thinking about giving an elimination diet a go to see whether they have issues with any foods that might exacerbate the issue (generally eating healthy already) and hoping for the best. Retinoids might be considered since the person already said they don’t want to be seen in public (swimming, spa etc.) with how the lesions currently look.
