a friend of mine is studying to be a nurse, she has done several shots before, but still thinks she needs practice. tonight, she was over, and i needed a b12 shot. Ive been doing these for years, with no blood ever.. she has even done one or two for me before. Tonight, she stuck the needle in, aspirated, no blood, injected relatively slowly, pulled out, and i literally bled out faster than i thought possible. blood had literally, in the 5 seconds it took me to grab an alcohol swab, run all the way down my arm. (this was a delt shot, in case i forgot to mention) it took about 15 mins to fully stop bleeding. I figured she could have passed through a vein, and thats why i bled, but even when i have bled because of other shots, it never took THAT long to stop bleeding.. Any thoughts?

(proper cleaning was used, changed needle, etc)

She must have hit a big vessel on the way in/out.. Not sure why it took so long to stop bleeding tho.. She must think she REALLY needs some practice now, lol.

here is a thought: If you aspirated then the needle was moved and you hit a vein. Tell your lady friend to keep practicing!

I guess there are a couple things i could include. while she was injecting, i went light headed for a couple seconds, it was 1 ml b12, 25 g needle. thats about it. it makes sense, what you said, aspiration, needle shifted slightly, nicking a vein. thanks.

Both of these responses sound very possible. One time when i was shooting prop, i aspirated, no blood, before i started shooting, i accidentally bumped the syringe over, which i think caused it to enter a vein.. possibly. I bled after, also had the distinct taste of BA in my mouth.. Im assuming your b12 has BA in it? either way, you probably would have gotten the taste of either ba or b12 in your mouth.. get that?

That's true about tasting it after.. You really do taste substances that get injected into the bloodstream like 10 seconds later.. It's not like this crazy taste, more like a subtle thing towards the back of your mouth

I've worked with lots of nursing students. A lot of the time during their clinical rotations they get a few supervised injections (they usually start them on subq insulin... maybe let 'em do a flu shot or two), and that's it. If it were me, I would be a bit hesitant to let her do it. I've seen what they do and let me tell you, the practice they get isn't all it's cracked up to be. Before going to the hospital to give shots, they practice on mannequins, watch videos, read about it in books... so theoretically, it would seem like they know what they're doing. But that's just the problem, it's all "theoretical," and the few "practice" shots they get to do on real people aren't all that much "practice," in my opinion. All I'm saying bro is to watch who you let do anything like that very carefully. Be their guide, tell them what to do, and don't let them start making decisions for you. Because they say that they have practice doesn't mean a whole helluva lot when it comes to your health and safety.

All the b12 Ive ever used ( for several years) was crimson red in color. Perhaps there was blood when she aspirated?

she has done it for me a couple times before, with NO problems whatsoever.
I watched the whole time as well as instruct her, making sure she knew what she was doing.. it was all fine.

yes it is a crimson red, but there is still a difference between the color of blood and the crimson of the b12. I do not believe there was blood in it.
