backed into a car. go through insurance or out of pocket?

just to give you guys an update. my insurance deductable was 25k and my insurance paid for the persons car ...

i did not pay a single penny.. the insurance said during the phone call they pay up to 25k. and will take care of it....

For the love of God, I explained this to you! You said your insurance deductible was $25k but you paid nothing, which means your deductible was EXACTLY what I said it was...........................NOTHING

Ok, I'm an insurance agent so I will tell you what your policy will cover.

It will pay a MAXIMUM of $25k per person per accident for BODILY INJURY and $50k MAXIMUM for the whole accident, per accident. This is ONLY for BODILY INJURY.

Your insurance will pay a MAXIMUM of $25k for property damage to another vehicle or building if you are AT FAULT.

There is absolutely NO DEDUCTIBLE in this scenario, NONE.

As far as walking away, you'd be a douchebag if you did and not take ownership. If you know you're at fault and don't file a claim or at least pay yourself, you suck as a person. Not saying you thought about it, just sayin.
It doesn't matter if the situation were reversed what the other guy would do, you can only control what you do. If you're in the wrong, man up and own it regardless of what someone else might do. That's why people are such ass holes these days, all about them

1. Let the insurance take care of it, that's why you pay for it.
2. As far as driving off, just because you don't see cameras, doesn't mean they aren't there. The camera at the ATM across the street could I.D. you too.
3. In my state, if you have an accident on private property, e.g. a parking lot of a store, pizza place, whatever, the cops won't come unless it's a hit and run.

A couple of years ago I backed into a car at the grocery store parking lot and didn't realize it until the cop showed up at my door - caught me on camera. I told him I had no clue I backed into anyone and the only evidence there was was a little scratch/smudge on my bumper. The lady's car had a big dent in her bumper, so it was really weird. In the end, I wasn't ticketed and her insurance called it "no-fault".

Pretty shitty fucking way to be. I had someone slam into my truck this weekend and take off when i was in the store. Now its me paying for the deductible for an accident i wasnt even in my truck for.

To the op. I would most likely go through the insurance as it shouldn't be too much of an increase.
Like above, i wouldn't just take his word on it though. If going through the insurance they require it to have an official appraisal. So far, my damages are over 2k.

I agree. This is one of the reasons car insurance is so expensive these days. Paying for uninsured motorists or those that flee the scene of an accident. Fleeing a scene is also against the law and punishable.

The deductable is what you pay before insurance covers anything. I hope you were reading that wrong.

My deductable is $1,500. Which means if i get into a wreck and its my fault, i will have to pay up to $1,500 before my insurance pays anything.

If its the other persons fault then it will go through their insurance, but i have th option to go through mine and pay up $1,500 which I will get back once my insurance sues their insurance.

Right. Most policies are set at $500 for collision and $250 for other than collision. Other than would be things like a broken windshield or vandalism. I had mine set once at $1000/$500 to save money.
