Bad PIP lower quad

This is an old thread but currently have bad PIP in quads from high dosed Primo

taking Bactrim and heating pad, figured heat would break up the inflammation

I tried both. Not sure which helped more, because in my case I was screwed anyhow. Nothing helped me. Heat would help bring more blood flow to perhaps get the irritant spread out, but that could also spread the infection if it is a true infection with bacteria. Cold does reduce swelling.

Why would heat exacerbate the issue?

also be sure to be careful if you decide to workout.
Some antibiotics have a bad effect on tendons.
Not sure if the one you use has it but there are some that will make the tendon more affected to injury..

It increases blood flow to the area, and fluids can build up if there is already swelling.

I think you’re right brother Bc it seems to be getting worse and even in my knee now.

Can barely walk. Going to see dr to maybe get a stronger antibiotic

There are different classes of antibiotics too. Gram positive and gram negative bacteria. I don't know a whole lot about it, just that they could take a sample from your leg and do a culture to see which it is. Maybe try a different type of antibiotic. Go in.

If you have a fever, go in right away. That can go into sepsis. I had a fever with mine.

Whereas I am against heating an area that has one or many of the potential issues with injecting;
If one is inclined to use heat this person should limit the time to 15 minutes than surely use ice for an additional 20 minutes. This will increase circulation and then reduce swelling and dull pain receptors. The Finnish utilize a similar protocol culturally by first sitting in a sauna and then immediately submerging in a frozen lake.

This is my honest advice.
