Any of you guys use this in your pre-workout or Intra workout shakes??

I used this back in the day here and there, mostly pre-workout days of competitions (strength based) because I did notice it helped endurance..probably not as important for a BBer.

Any of you guys use this in your Intraworkouts?? Curious bc I have never tried it, but don't want to waste my time either..

Any other benefits you guys have noticed??

I thought there was a thread about "milkshaking" ? I have never tried it but if it works for million dollar racehorses why not us right ? Seems more geared toward endurance as opposed to explosive strength that a weight training workout would need. Did you like it back in the day ?
 
Sodium bicarb is a great buffer but dosed high enough to make any real difference it see,s to have negative gi effects in most people...hence it's lack of popularity. If you thought no explode made you poop....(edited to add I read the link and that warning is there.....carry on)

It also helps protect the kidneys from myoglobin.
 
For endurance I saw an actual result...But I am more old school..I can take creatine monohydrate and see differences from that. I was Natural for many years so I can see my body respond to OTC products...whereas nowadays there are so many chemicals widely present most people wouldn't even consider such a basic, they'd go straight for the EPO..LOL

Problem is if you take it with anything like food, it's going to cause GI distress because you will end up using it neutralize your stomach acid.
So might not be a good idea intra-workout (although that depends on what your shake consists of).

Larger doses seem to work well, but then you need to divide up the doses into smaller portions like 3g a time.

As mentioned it helps spare the kidneys, because the kidneys normally have to produce bicarbonate to neutralize body acid.

It's been demonstrated to lower blood pressure in some high risk groups as well, which might be another good idea to take it.

Exactly. Interupts break down, digestion. Should'nt take it with or right
after meals. I take half table spoon in a half cup of water for heartburn.
 
what you are doing with baking soda is basing out your blood to buffer against the effects of lactic acid build up. that is the burning you feel while working out, especially higher rep or volume.

i dont use it because of the digestion issues mentioned and dose need higher doses, instead i use potasium citrate.

pc is great to help counter that burning and be able to get more reps.

1-4 g pre work out but really closer to 1-2g for the most part goes into my pre work out shake. which has 25-30g protien, 5g alanine, 10-20g taurine, 1g magnesium taurate,glycerol, sometimes ill add creatine, sea salt, leucine. no digestion problems with that combo.
