I am sure there are some guys here who work in Corporate America like myself.

When you're on cycle do you hide it by wearing long sleeve shirts, if not do you get a lot of odd looks and comments?

I started working at this new job 6 mo ago, and being I am in a conservative area of Tx it's tough. When I started working here I had little comments here in there, the fat guys don't like me, and the fat women give me dirty looks too. That was when I was going all natural.

Now that I am 3 weeks in and started to retain about 9 pounds of water (lol) My shirts are much tighter, and the stares in the elevator are pretty annoying. It's only going to get worse with me.

How do you cope being on and people noticing at the job? Do you hide it, or just say F it? I've had people come out and ask me straight up.

I hide it, you don't have any friends in corporate America. It's even worse with today's economy because people are looking for any excuse to fire you instead of laying you off.

I try to wear clothing that is big enough to hide details. That includes long sleave shirts, short sleave shirts that come down to my elbows, baggier pants and shirts. I wear them all the time, not just when I'm on. I don't look sloppy, everything is still tailored, but it isnt' as showing as my home clothing.

Like you said, people are resentful and really up in your business.

agreed, just keep it conservative at the office....enjoy it everywhere else.

MY clothes are baggy.....might look fat to a lot of folks.....but with the way the news is these days.....that's better than looking like im in TOO good of shape.

Good advice, most of my short sleeved polos are taylored, so when I gain weight my sleeves are tight. I guess I'll have to go to the dry cleaners more often with my long sleeve shirts.

I started working at a company that has been around for 25 years, and they had layoffs not to long ago. They started a new division and hired me and paid for me to move cross country. Some of the people have been there 10+ years. Well they moved the Director out of the office, and put me in there. Then the company didn't get bonuses becuase of the extra expense of our Department. So people are looking for any reason to get me in trouble.

Conservative Work Environment

I work at a large law firm(250+ lawyers), but i work in IT. I am their solutions architect(glorified programmer) so i think they expect me to be a bit eccentric. Most days i wear jean, my favorite sneakers and a polo shirt. When i am on(like now) i get stares but it really isn't too bad and if anything i get a lot of the lawyers coming up asking for fitness advice etc.

I don't really think muscle holds you back if you are really good at your job. I have never had any problems even when i worked for a large bank and was somewhere around 250(i am very very short). There are a few comments but most people in that environment are too polished to actually throw out a "Are you on steroids question."

shit man.....tell them that what people look like where your from

now I keep myself covered up....but they can tell that i'm very much wider than your standard man, and that I'm very strong(they think i am....i'm just a big pussy)

But i dont' really get any gear comments.....I do at the gym....not at work. I work in the suburbs now.....and they all know that I'm from the country.....i think that's what pops in their heads. "Oh....well John's just a big farm boy...."

and i'm thinking...."hell yes....that's it.....i'm just BIG COUNRTY....you got it. This bulk is from bailing hay 20 years ago.....you got it man"

I live in San Antonio, just moved from South Florida. People here are extremely overweight, they wear their fat like it's a badge they are proud of. of. It makes me sick! Nothing here but fast food restaraunts, and Tex Mex. South Fl was much different, a lot of egos, people were very self concious of how they look. I am really struggling to find people here that like to train, or have the same interests.

That term is new to me and I'm in IT also :D Man, who comes up with these names?

Things aren't like they were 10 years ago. In the office I was considered the picture of health. People would come to me with questions about nutrition and training. Never was there any discussion of steroid usage.

The press and government has blow ASS out of proportion today. It has such a negative perspective and the first thing ANY of the population think when they see someone carrying a large amount of muscle is steriods. It may be true, but it's none of their fricken business. But, people have such a negative outlook on it! You absolutely have to hide it. You know how those nosey old, gossiping staff assistant bithches get. I swear those nags life goal is to get a suite fired from the office. They are just pissed because they didn't pursue their education. Me ex-girlfriend was called in the HR office one day because the admins in the office had file a formal complaint with HR because on casual Friday she had worn open toe shoes one week and on another occasion she had worn nickers.... which apparently was against the company "formal" policy.

Anyway, hide it. Better safe than sorry.

A couple years ago, (I dont know where the article is) I read an article that many wall street stock guys were starting to juice up because a study 'proved' that musclar men are more successful in the stock market, business, etc.....

F*** what those other idiots think. And I have yet to ever feel down about a fat guy or girl hating me. They don't exist if you ask me.

:D

Well, we have an enterprise architect that handles the networking side of the house. I am the architect for the development side of the house (we have 20+ programmers/developers) and out of that 20 we have 4 technical leads which provide immediate technical guidance to the junior developers. Me, i am the lucky on that gets to code the really fun stuff, sit in meeting ad nauseum and interact with end users, YAY!!!!!! In reality i dodge everything but the coding as best i can....lol.

I used to work for MS as a consultant and i was a principal consultant in .net but i got tired of travelling=-) It seems like every company has new titles for the same old tired positions.

I would personally prefer "Code Deity" but no one ever agrees to that title in the salary negotiation stages

When they want to give you a raise, but your already capped out at your current position. They just make up a new and better sounding name and pay you more. :D

Lol, definitely=-) Sometimes they just give you the cool sounding title and no pay raise though.......bastards;)

When before I started working for my office 3 years ago I had my final interview. The woman that interviewed me told me that she used to date a bodybuilder and she wanted to know if I was going to pass the drug test.

Lol, thats great. Because random urinalysis always checks for gear right=-)

Gotta love people.

WHy are you building yourself into a monster if you don't want to be one? I thought that was the point. I work in an office, and I love the feeling, plus you get more respect as a bigger man. Just be yourself. If you keep worrying about hiding your true identity, people will pick up on that vibe and then they will think you are a wierdo.

In my industry theres drugs everywhere, but steroids are looked at as worse than heroine. in the summer i have to wear polo shirts, and lets face it no matter how baggy theyre not gonna hide shoulders and traps. i get asked about juice all the time. the best way i find around it is be so nice noone cares what you look like. that and ask them logical questions to answer theyre questions about it. like, when was the last time you ever saw me eat anything fried, or a desert, or really anything but chicken, fish, and veggies? ive been at this for 10 years and actually resent the idea of being accused of using steroids because it undermines all the years of hard work ive put into this. that usually shuts them up. noone needs to know what you do besides you.

great post. Most people think that once steroids are involved you can sit on the couch and eat doritos and get ripped. simply pointing out everything else that goes into it will generally be enough to stop the outright questions. And if not, do what we do and blame genetics. :p
