Hey, everyone. My father is in his 2nd bout with stage 4 lymphoma. He beat stage 4 about 6 years ago and it's back now. His issue this time is that a couple of the sites are in his intestinal track. He has a hard time eating without causing severe abdominal pain and he can't take very much hydrocodone because it constipates him so badly and exacerbates the abdominal pain.
He's open to any kind of pain management at this point that isn't opioid based. I don't have very much experience with CBD and different strains that might be better suited. Any advice at all would be appreciated.
He starts chemo on the 9th. Despite it all, hes a positive attitude kind of guy.

With that kind of pain I’m not sure cbd is gonna be able to touch it.

Is taking something opioid based, and concurrently taking miralax to mitigate the constipation an option?

He needs full spectrum cannabanoids to potentiate any cbd activity. I live in ca and have been using marijuana since I was 10 I'm 37 so 27 years of experience here plus I have ptsd depression l4 l5 degenerative and spina bifida + Insomnia.

Get cbd, thc blemd bare minimum

That and he probably needs u to biohack his daily lifestyle and diet.

He'd fair better on vit "keta"

Sorry to hear this mate.

I've never felt that any weed product assists with severe pain for me anyway.

Targin may be the way to go here. I'd try that.

Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, CBD will likely be useless. Are you in a state where Cannabis is legal? I would very much recommend trying full strength weed. My experience is that a Indica leaning strain north of 30% TCH may help. Nothing will be as effective as Opioids, but the strong weed strain will certainly take the edge off. I recently had some pain issues and I used it. The only side effect is getting stoned off your ass and eating everything not nailed to the floor; however, that isn't so bad in the grander scheme of things. If he doesn't want to smoke, there are edibles. Anything is better than Opioids in my view.

THanks guys.
Southern, he's on a daily miralax schedule. It's a rough spot and he's really looking for any possible intervention, or combination of interventions. The majority of the pain is originating in the gut. But he also has a ton of athritic/muscle/connective tissue pain that he's essentailly had since the last time he went through chemo and radiation. I thought, maybe the CBD could help in some way or at least maybe have a combinational effect with the other treatments.
MT, he can't take a full spectrum. He's drug tested through medicare to be able to maintain his hydrocodone prescription and while he is trying to limit that as much as possible, when it's needed it's needed.

So here's the plot twist with the whole CBD hype, is that it actually needs some low levels of THC combined with CBD to benefit from it. The THC is suppose to basically activate the CBD (sure theres a better science that can be looked up to explain it). This is just first world experience with it. So yeah that CBD that's on the self at your doctors office, that reads THC free, is crap!

The dispensary I go to...they sell tablets that are 10mg cbd and 2.5mg thc made by Avexia. They work like a charm.

From my experience cbd did nothing at all for pain. Something like your dad has is going to need something a lot better that actually works.

Agree with this. I tried CBD/CBN for pain, nothing. Now a nice Indica gummy does wonders for it and helps me sleep.

Toradol is amazing if looking for a script.

I’ve seen more people get relief from PEA than CBD. Both are like a drop in a lake here though given his current situation as I’d go more for something like Toradol or stronger.

He could also consider LDN (low dose naltrexone) given its role with cancer and pain as a potential longer management play with the pain. It’s worked miracles from some and done nothing for others.

Not that the pain would compare, but my wife had her wisdom teeth pulled and used 0 opioids (her mom died young partly because of an opioid addiction), all she used was thc/cbd (high thc) and she made it through pretty easily.

There is a product called RSO (thc) made for cancer patients .....it is the strongest stuff I've seen . Comes in syringe so can measure it carefully . Ill try to find what states have it and get back to you.

It’s been said but full blown THC is prob your best bet outside of opiates. If you’re not in a rec state you should obviously easily be able to get him a script. I would start with some 10mg gummies and if he builds a tolerance start squirting some distillate concentrate on top of the gummy.

I would second LDN (low dose naltrexone) it’s definitely worth a shot.

If daily miralax isn’t working, he can add sennakot on top of it. Even some mag citrate.

I believe its Rick Smiths Oil Nevada Colorado if interested I can call some friends and help you get it ,

Stage 4 cancer...I'm very sorry Pheedno. Can his Oncologist script him a Fentanyl patch?
My late father-in-law had pancreatic cancer. His oncologist was able to provide him a MMJ card in about 48 hours.
I was listed as his caregiver which allowed me to get whatever he needed at a dispensary here. So I grabbed him
a hand full of indica vape cartridges which significantly improved his appetite but he needed something stronger for his pain.
He had a palliative care RN who came to his home EOD and applied a Fent patch to his chest which was far more effective for his pain.

I know it’s available in Washington.

@Pheedno ...prayers your way brother.
We have a sponsor on PM that has thc/cbd type gummies. Feedback from other members has his products top notch. Reach out to him.
His banner is on the the bottom page 2nd row from bottom right.
Take care. Blessings to your family.

hey bud,

cbd wont do anything without a ratio of thc.
really you need some sort of full spectrum for anything worthwhile but even still its not in the same realm as opiates for pain.
if you have to deal with some sort of outside supervision then there is nothing you can really do. just use what dr's give.
mt's suggestion of k istn off base either. it does act on opioid receptor and has research in neuropathic pain and all sorts of off label uses that can be rx'ed for. it wont cause constipation but i i also dont think it will make a major difference in pain levels.
