Now that everything is closed here in AZ I’m in the market for a decent treadmill. Ones on Craigslist and OfferUp are crappy ones.
Where do you guys recommend looking?

This place sells some nice ones that are refurbished. https://www.buyandsellfitness.com/collections/newusedtreadmills

I personally bought a new Landice. They have lifetime warranty on everything but the console I think. Local place sold it to me. https://www.landice.com/home-fitness/l7-treadmill/explore

Lifetime warranty for original owner.

If you don’t want to buy used, prices are crazy inflated right now anyway, I would suggest buying it from a local store. From my experience treadmills are really finicky, lots of moving parts, so if there is an issue it’s a pretty big mess if you bought it online and of course issues usually won’t pop up until after the returns period has expired. Buying it from Costco or sams club may cost you more in regards to they don’t necessarily sell the cheap ones but if you have a problem with it you’ll never really have to worry about it getting it resolved whereas buying it cheap from some random vendor online you’re probably shit out of luck.

Just my opinion

Yeah, a good local store would be best for when you need service. Mine had a part go bad inside the base and I arranged from them to come out and fix it. The part was free, just had to pay labor. It has a lifetime warranty on parts. Cost was around $100 for the trip out and labor. Its been fine since. The treadmill is about 12 years old now and gets a lot of use. Motor is like new. 4 hp.

Theoretically speaking, how much is it to repair a machine that breaks?

If it was an inexpensive treadmill and the motor went out, it might almost not be worth fixing I bet. I had a cheap treadmill that was like $600 and when the motor burned up I just got rid of it. So its going to depend on how much its worth and whats wrong. With the Landice you dont have to worry about paying for new parts.

I work on the exercise equipment field. Sure enough, right now everything is sold out and demand is jacking prices up.

My recommendation, if I was to buy a treadmill for me, I would go with a used commercial grade. You have residential and commercial. Residential have light weak parts, made to be used sporadically but break easy, they even fail just by not using it for a while. Repairs are still expensive.

Commercial treadmills are made to be work horses. They are for gyms, intended to be used by multiple users, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They are bulkier, but way more solid, heavier with hardcore components that last longer and fail less.

If I decided to buy a new residential one, I would go with a Sole. (Sole belong to Spirit) The reason, they have EXCELLENT customer service and warranty. They cover any failure, I believe for 5 years, you call them, describe the problem, they ship you the parts and they arrange with a local service provider to go and repair it. No cost for you.
