I haven't run any antibiotics since about 2008 I believe.

I just had to take some and while I don't like kimchi or saurkraut...I am going to try to drink a couple Kombucha a day and I am contemplating buying VSL #3 sachets which is what Dr. Rhonda Patrick suggests as the best probiotic out there. She even told me that you can take one sachet every few days instead of daily since they are so strong. 450 billion. She stressed very specifically to make sure you get them in the sachets.

What would you guys do?
 
I don't like sauerkraut or kimchi either, but kefir is a pretty solid alternative.

Also a solid prebiotic and probiotic supplement helps. I think they should be mainstays in a person's regime anyways for helping to maintain optimal health.
 
Kefir and or Greek yogurt. Pickles and occasional banana . Onion and garlic as well.

Good to know that you can take a sachet every few days.
 
1 TBS apple cider vinegar....
at least 1 whole (half sour) pickle....
half cup to 1 whole cup of pickled beets.....

daily......

kefir is also good, but do not recommend for any show prep...

kefir at 1 cup(8oz) a day...

Will also add take these steps with antibiotics not just after they cease.

I'm all about "you pay for what you get" though.
 
The VSL is expensive, yes... But then again, I take a 30 billion cfu pill currently... $20 for 30 caps. Perhaps the VSL is worth it?

Rhonda is promoting a new probiotic now, apparently vsl changed their probiotic make up and is no longer the same formula as the one that had all the studies done on it. She says the new one is the same original vsl formula and cheaper.

I just ordered it, I've been using a 100 bill capsule to this point but since reading her sachets comments i thought i'd try making the switch. I've had a lot of antibiotics thru my life fighting acne so a good probiotics a necessity for me

Good topic, gut health, very important

Just about anything fermented. I have a fresh batch of sauerkraut
brewing on my kitchen counter now. Very easy to make.

Things others have mentioned are good too . . . apple cider vinegar
or most any vinegar. We make our own vinegar, or should I say we
keep the mother alive, it’s ~ 100 years old and made from grape
juice, and we pick the grapes. Anything pickled is great as is kimchi,
kombucha, etc. . . Am sure there is a bunch of stuff I’m missing.

Some people will also eat ‘rotten’ (fermented?) meat. Personally,
I draw the line there.

I don’t have much faith is prebiotic or probiotic supplements. The
jury is still out on whether or not they survive in the stomach or
if they do, are they in sufficient quantity to do much good. Just
some food for thought (pun intended).
 
I always just take a pack of Lacinex (Lactobacillus Granules) mixed in yogurt once a day for a few days to get everything jump started back in place.

It's the fastest way I've found to rebound my gut health fast after antibiotics.
 
Try to find bubbies pickles in your area if you don't like kimchi or sauerkraut. They are naturally pickled instead of with ginger and they have the mother floating in them. Theyre delicious. I eat one a day and drink a bit of the pickling liquid
 
Eat a clove a garlic a day. Chop it up, let it oxygenate for 15 minutes and eat on an empty stomach.
 
Not sure if it was just me but kombucha fucked me up. It made my CNS go into hyperdrive. Worst time of my life until I found out what was causing it. I feel that shit should be illegal.
 
OK I have been adding PREbiotics in the form of unmodified potato starch for about a week now. This is in addition to probiotic that I've consistently been taking for several months. I feel fantastic. Gut health and mental health are pretty tightly connected.

I can't find the post Dante made on it...and I was hoping he would chime in. I seem to remember he did a lot of research on it years back and had come to the conclusion that two probiotics or two kinds were super beneficial and it turned his stomach into an indestructible force.

I've been to a few countries that have those probiotics drinks right on the shelf of the 7-Eleven, but I don't remember seeing them anywhere in the States in those easy single-serving containers. Probably just at health food / supplement stores.
 
Femented foods

Dr. Ohirras Probiotics (has prebiotics to feed your good bacteria). It's not about how many "live bacteria" are in a supplement but how effective it is for restoring and creating a healthy gut. Companies love to play the numbers game to try impress and "1-up" each other to make it seem like their product is better all because it boasts a larger number. Quality-not quantity!
