i've got bicep tendon inflammation at the shoulder insertion. Anybody ever have this and how did you deal with it? I get pretty good relief with motrin but would rather not take it. Would cissus be a good alternative? Thanks for your feedback.

Tom

are you referring to pain in the bicipital groove? if so, I only get it when Im due for a week off, and thats usually what I end up doing.

Rest, stretching, limited range of motion while exercising (atleast until you heal), and maybe a little deca? (more emphasis on the rest and stretching) In all seriousness, I know it sucks to throw off your routine, but what will you do if you actually tear the damn thing. Let it heal!

try icing it. Then rest and some massage can help move blood through the area.

yes

that's the area of the pain and i'm long overdue for a week off....thanks

i feel your pain,,,sort of. I have a pull in my bicep down close to my forearm.

tom.. have fought it for years.. my left shoulder right in the middle of the front delt.. everything hurts it.. sometimes bad.. sometimes tolerable.. i just had to eliminate movements that really aggravated it.. went to the ortho and had a mri ect.. said it was a narrow groove that cause the tendon aggravation.. then he said sugery was not a 100% outcome.. now i just use motrin if i have too.. hopefully time will heal yours..

Thanks Lats. I have had this off and on as you say, right up the middle of the front delt, both shoulders for years. This time though is the worst. I've been avoiding certain exercises too and been doing fairly well till now. I think a week off with motrin every day will knock it out but I've heard good things about cissus and maybe using it consistantly will keep it at bay. I appreciate your and everyone's feedback. I've made some great progress since joining this board and have gotten great advice re injuries too.

upright rows for me, is a sure way to get this to comeback in a bad way, I dont know about you guys, I pretty much avoid them all together now.

that must be the cursed tendon - i also have the exact same pain right in the middle of the front left delt. it hurts mostly when i do heavy barbell curls. and as for training shoulders i now have to do a ridiculous amount of warmup!!!

ICe after training

heat before training.

Stretch and limit movements that cause it to hurt.

you got it

lately i've been doing standing cable curls with a whopping 60 lbs. by keeping my elbows back slightly it seems to take the strain off the delts. high reps seem to give a good pump and allow me to work biceps. i'm thinking of hangin all this bodybuilding shit up and becoming a checker player.

Bro I believe you should try with the motrin/ibuprofen for a few days and see if the inflammation subsides.

If it is not going to go away, then I would suggest by all means to undergo a mri, since it is the only way for you and your physician to assess exactly what's going on.

Plus, for me, avoiding reverse-grip barbell curls helped. :)

Hey man,
I just had this all looked at about 2 months ago. Had an MRI, CT scan, nothing was found as to a shoulder problem. My cousin who is a PT and his co-workers are certain it's bad tendonitis in the biceps. He gave me 4 stretches to do and it almost healed overnight after doing them. Also, a good massage wouldn't hurt either. (Just get a hot massage therapist ;) )

can you PLEASE post what stretches you did. i would be very interested in trying them myself

I have this problem also ice it and best stretch for it I think is Corner stretch. Face a corner put your arms up parralell from shoulders elbows bent at 90 degrees and lean in to it hold for 20 seconds do it 3 time per session repeat 3 or more times a day and also pec major a pec minor stretches help and regular bicep stretches.

50 repetitions of very calculated carefull broomstick dislocate stretches morning and night with 16% menthol rub applied in the affected area pre lifting and prebed.

thats been my remedy every time ive ever gotten it--has cured it every single time.

that and no more free weight preacher benches for me (which rots but is havoc on my front delt/biceps when the reps get tough and i start leaning backwards a little to try to get the barbell moving)

I had this problem for years and started doing the DC stretches. It cleared up within 2 weeks and has been the best remedy ever. Thanks DC

I'll try my best to explain.
Here's one. stand back against a wall(flat). Place your feet about 1 foot in front of you...together. Put your entire back against the wall. It is a Bitch but you will get used to it. bring your arms and have them against the wall. Keep your elbows and hands, and shoulders against the wall throughout this entire motion. Drag them up all the way, then slowly drag them down, trying to dig your elbows into your sides (you will get nowhere near that but thats how I explain it). He has me do reps of 25-30. And, if done correctly, your arms/delts/traps will be smoked!!! (I hope this explanation is thorough enough  )
Another is to lie stomach down on a bench w/ only your head off. thumbs upand your keep your arms straight.....raise them up directly out to your sides (the position of looking like a bird w/ wings). 25-30 reps. The same straight out in front and halfway between those two. God I hope this is explanation enough. If not, pm me and I'll try again.
