So ive been reading this book a friend gave me called Big Beyond Belief. There are some really good principals in here. I think i going to try the four day split outlined. Has anyone tried this program with results?

Heres my question it says three sets for thighs. What about hamstrings?

I read that thing maybe 15 years ago. Unnecessarily complicated.

I didnt find it "complicated".

You just do the prescribed amount of reps and sets and use the allotted rest times. Its simple.

I ran BBB while in High School, and ive run it several times since then.

Its a great program.

Legs

It's gonna be 3 sets for quads 3 sets for hams. Hope that helps.

Leo Costa brought in Tom Platz to help push the system.

In all actually, the training in the book was taken from PM's own, Phil Hernon.

As for legs, since my training partner and i always did the 6 day routine, we would do one workout quads, and then the next hams, and just continue to rotate them.

We did the same for back as well, one workout width, the next thickness/midback, and then continue to rotate.

Good old days.......the BULGARIAN BURST training system.....we were really onto something back then

I think ive got it all layed out now. Thanks for the input. Leaving for vacation for a week on Friday then going to start the first ramp

Legs or thighs if trained for 3 sets total, quads 2 sets and hams 1 set. Next go around you flip it 3 sets thighs i.e. quads 1 set hams 2 sets.

AWESOME program! Plateaus are almost non-existent with this one.

I remember my training partner got the videos showing Phil going through his training, along with the Tom Platz/Leo Costa workout where Leo kept yelling SUCK! SUCK SUCK! while repping out. LOL.

At this point, I was 16 years old and very green to bodybuilding.

I was so impressed with how Phil looked. I kept telling my buddy "that Phil guy is impressive!".

Of course my buddy (20 years my senior) used to work out at BIll Pearls gym and met and trained with alot of the bodybuilders from the 70's and 80's so he wasnt as taken with Phil as I was.

Now here I am, 16 years later replying to a Phil Hernon post, and Im just as much of a fan of his now as I was back then.

Pretty cool...

I love this, this is the second post ive seen mentioning Big Beyond Belief in the last couple months. Great program, me and a buddy used to run it in high school and got great results. At first friends would laugh at us dilligently watching our stopwatch between sets, until theu saw the results we were making. My friend still has the book. If you find the old thread someone left a link to the book free online.

Heres the link

Big Beyond BElief

Anyone intrested great link. We must have been 16 or 17 at the time, got our hands on some d-bol. Trained natural during the ramp up, then would run the d-bol during the ramp down.

.

I think the reason the program works well is do to the ramping which takes you to the edge of overtraining and then the volume drops back down allowing the growth that was stimulated to happen.

It makes use of the dual-factor theory.

There is also the changing of rep ranges and rest times between sets which keeps the body from adapting. But that's my own opinon.

The Musclenow Program is also similar.

I loved that program. My brother and I split the money to buy that book back in the day. We both used it almost regularly for a few years and got in great shape. In fact I got my biggest and strongest using the 4 day system. I still have the 4 day plan written out on a piece of paper somewhere.

I realized a friend had forwarded me a PDF of the course forever ago and I never looked at it until reading this thread. That's a lot of volume - meaning the 6 day set ups (with my work schedule I'd drop dead from it). But the 4 day splits look like something I'm actually going to try for the Hell of it. I've always done better on any muscle being worked at least twice a week, rather than once. Upping to four, under that protocol, looks like a good experiment. From here anyway. :p
