Lou Ferrigno, the former Mr. Universe and star of "The Incredible Hulk" television series, will be sworn in tonight as a Los Angeles County reserve deputy sheriff.
The 53-year-old Ferrigno will graduate as a member of Sheriff's Reserve Academy class 105. He started training in September and will be required to serve at least 20 hours per month.
"Lou Ferrigno was an outstanding trainee and I know that he'll be an outstanding reserve deputy sheriff," said Sheriff Lee Baca. "Reserve deputies serve without compensation, receiving only the great satisfaction of being of service to their community."
Baca said Ferrigno would help recruit new reserve deputy sheriffs. The sheriff's office announced that Ferrigno was also interested in working with the Sheriff's Youth Activities League and the Special Victims Unit, which works with abused children.
Aside from the popular television series, Ferrigno appeared in many other films and TV shows and was a world renowned body-builder. He was just 21 when he won his first Mr. Universe title and broke records by winning again when he was 22.
Ferrigno later founded a personal training business and wrote a book about fitness and body-building.
