Bigger waist and Dead lifts

If this has been beaten to death I'm sorry. I did a search and nothing came up so I wanted you opinions.

I just read Will Harris interview in MD...I've also read it from A. Cherry and others that if you do heavy squats and dead lifts your waist will get bigger.

I've also worked/dieted with someone who tells all his clients that...and some already have wide waists without doing the exercises!

IMO it's bull shit...it's more of a genetic thing. I squat and dead lift with personal best weights this entire off-season and my waist didn't change a bit. When you add total size to your physique your waist can and will change, but I don't think those two lifts alone cause the change.

Your thoughts and opinions?
 
I would tend to agree with you. I don't feel that those add any appreciable width to one's waistline. Look at all the bodybuilders of old, they all had tiny waists and they all pulled and squated. I think it has more to do with one's diet and the overuse of slin and GH.
 
i agree i think its genetics and diet - and definately too much GH will cause a big waist. honestly to me waist size in unimportant, all i care about is strength and power. i have about a 100 time more respect for guys who compete in worlds strongest man than i do a bodybuilder, and those guys dont give a fuck about their waist. i think those guys look great, where most bodybuilders look sickly, dehydrated and unhealthy
