i was wondering if u guys prefer bike or treadmill for cardio... i feel more fat burning effects from jogging but my knees and shins cant take my weight, so im forced to do bike.

BIKE IT

if i have to ill only do the bike at a low level , running or treadmill burns muscle when your pretty lean and thats a big no no.

Bike is MUCH easier on the knees....My knees have nver been the same after a few months of hack squats. I will never use that machine again. I should have known better than to stray from squats.

it depends on ur currents stats and goals for cardio equit selection, remeber a lot of machines like the stair climbers offer no help really in comparison to other cardio machines when it comes to fat loss bec of the extremely high intensity, long duration with a maintined heart beat around 150ish/mintue is ideal for fatburning although they say it changes with your age i cannot remeber the formula off hand..

for me the bike..less stress on the knee..specially if you are over 200 pounds or over 30 years old!!!! :(

No pain no gain, get on the treadmill! Get a good pair of shoes and that should cut alot of the problems down. Granted the bike does allow for little to no impact whatsoever, but I also think that It's less affective. I bike during the season to help keep the hips loose. But the amount of time and the intesity that it takes to get a good workout compared to a treadmill or even out side can't be compared. If you have a good diet and not trying to be a pro bodybuilder then you really won't lose any real muscle. You'll be suprised how running and the impact halps tighten things up more than normal. Just my thoughts.

You'll want to be in the 60-70% of max heart rate for maximum fat loss.

I only have a stepper, but it's easy to maintain that HR.

I've been reading a fair bit about how HIIT is much more beneficial for fat loss (and retaining muscle). It would seem easier to do HIIT on a treadmill than a bike. Give that a try.

You will burn more calories on a treadmill or crosstrainer than on a bike.

Set it to walk a moderate pace and then vary the incline.

|--[\\\]>----------- what is a bike and what is a treadmill? are you speaking french?

I thought it was just me. The pain is borderline excruciating at times from walking. The pain in my shins feels like the muscle is being ripped away from the bone. I was painfree until I (like a bonehead) started inclining the tm up to 7 and walking at 4.6mph. About all I can withstand now is 0 incline at 4.2 mph. If I hadn't fuked with the incline, I'd have no problems with my shins at all. I'm going to start my leanumup diet today and I prefer walking 2x a day, seven days a week for 50min a shot. I doubt that's going to be possible with my bum shins. Well anyhoo........

Queefer, those are shin splints. When I played football, as I got heavier shin splints were a bitch! Its some of the worse pain I've ever had.

I use to run 2-3 times a week, before I got into bodybuilding. Running kept me in the 160-170 lb range at 5'9" - looked good, but average. No doubt in my mind that running is, at least for me, the most cardio intensive exercise - and it definitely eats fat and muscle. Now I weigh about 205, and for the past 2 years my favorite cardio has been the stairclimber - the one with the revolving staircase (like a real set of stairs set in motion). I do that 2-3 times a week and the fat stays off and I keep the muscle.

Long story short - I like the stairclimber best, then probably the bike, and last the treadmill.

Dr that thing is the gaunlet, or at least what we called it. We used to put the tubby lineman on that thing and watch them swet like pigs! lol

I used to get real bad shin splints from jogging/running. A physical therapist told me that most bodybuilders totally ignore the front part of the calf ( the muscles that you use when you raise your toes) so the overdeveloped back part dominates the front when you run and it causes bad cramps. To fix this, try using the "Tibia" machine made by Hammer Strength, and when sitting around, try raising your foot up and down while keeping the heel on the floor. This will help re-balance the calf muscles over time.

i do prefer running or jogging, i feel my waist being "worked out". like i said my knees and also my inner thighs burn like a bitch from rubbing against each other, that im forced to go with bike.
