I am looking to buy a accurate blood glucose monitor, what brand do you guys like?

Or what brands would you stay away from?

Thanks :D

they are all pretty damn accurate peoples lives are at stake

pay no attention to the price of the monitor its the test strips you gotta keep buying that will add up quick

Alright man so there won't be a difference between a 20 dallor monitor and an 80 dallor monitor?

So do you have a brand of strips you would recommend?

I guess my real question is what's the difference between the cheap strips and monitors and the expensive strips and monitors?

you have to buy the strips that go with your machine they are not
universal the 20 dollar monitor may take strips that cost 2 buck a piece
and a 60 dollar machines may take ones that are 75 cents
this may be a little extreme but

just make sure you check the price on the strips before you buy

Look around online. They can be found for free. All the strips are more than the meters.

Walmart: Reli-on

This, because you can get the test strips for it for .40 cents each, otherwise you will pay 1 dollar each for test strips, accuracy is the same.

Target brand. Paid like $15-$20 for 100 strips.

I just bought a $20 dollar one called one-touch. the strips are the expensive part.

My knuckles suddenly turned black and I was worried if it was an early sign of diabetes but my bg upon waking was 90 and after an hour after a meal it was 110.

its a good idea to have one around.

90 is high for fasting, that is moderate insulin resistance, get it down to the low 80s at least.

I'm in the business. My company sells all the major brands. I've found the Bayer Contour to be the most accurate, and the strips are reasonably priced also. And yes, there is a difference in brands. Regulations allow up to a 30 point difference in the readings.

Can you supply some documentation for an claim like that? 30 points would make some people dead vs living.

I'm talking about the difference between one meter to another. Check yourself with a one touch, ect, then use a contour or whatever, you will usually test differently. I'll try to to find the reg. for you that allows this.

Just Google " differences in blood glucose readings", you'll find some are more than 30 points.

Most of them are all pretty good. I would try finding one with the best priced strips. The strips are what are the most expensive.

I believe this. My mother has several machines which I've tested back to back. Using 3 diff machines, there was a 20 spread.

Kinda tough to know what to trust.
