Blood pressure meds

A buddy of mine I deer hunt with asked what my options were on prescription blood pressure meds and which were better and if there were any other options. I know some of you guys take them and have been through several with different results and side effects so I figured I'd as your personal preference on the.

he is 48 years old , retired from the only job he ever had. May of 2020 he was 328lb and didn't work out AT ALL had a very seditary job and his blood pressure was 150/95 and high cholesterol (268-LDL , 32-HDL , 279 Triglyceride) , so he started eating better and walking 30 min a day.
currently his is at 210lbs eating a 33%/33%/33% macro split diet at 2300 calories and has basically plateaued but he is happy here. He walks 20 min after breakfast , 20 after lunch and 20 in the evening after dinner , he is on 15mg/ED test cyp , 2iu/EDHGH , 10mg/ED Cialis. Now his cholesterol is down to 136-LDL , 39-HDL , 86-Triglycerides but his blood pressure is still high at 142/88 and 91bpm , his cardiologist is concerned that it hasn't come down more and wants to put him on low fat very low sodium diet and BP meds. His diet while reasonably higher in fats is very clean , he has a farm so 95% of his meat (chicken/eggs/beef) is true grass fed free range and added fats are from avocado and grass fed butter and olive oil , carbs are mostly fruit and veggies and a little oats and rice.
he can't do and HIIT cardio due to two bad knees from a car accident (walking the 30 min is tuff)

so if he does need a blood pressure med what would you guys suggest , or what sups can he try before?? I reall want to help the guy because he has honestly busted his ass to lose the weight and wants to keep improving his life , he's excited to have a double knee replacement schedule when he turns 50 so he can be more active.

its refreshing to see someone who it appears did everything possible to lower his BP before he resorted to meds. Seems like now days everyone wants to solve everything with more pharmaceutical drugs, especially among AAS users. Looks like he gave it his best and lost weight, added cardio, hopefully he will find the minimum dose of a drug the doesn't give him sides that can get him in range.

I've tried different BP meds and I keep coming back to Amlodipine (Calcium Chanel Blocker). For some reason it just works better with my biochemistry than others like Lisinopril or Telmisartan. 10mg keeps me in the 120's/70's but it does come with some mild edema (1+ pitting edema) in my shins/ankles.
BP meds don't work the same from one guy to the next. He's just going to have to trial each one till he finds what works.

328 to 210...fuckin awesome!

I take 5 mgs of amlodopine twice daily woth telmisartan once daily

Im taking 2,5mg amlodipine with 60mg Telmisartan and 12,5mg HCTZ. Keeps my bp at 112/68, feeling great.

I have to agreee for isolated high systolic blood pressure issues amlodipine is my first choice with Telmisartan.

I tried Nebivolol for a couple months but lately with just 40mg Telmisartan and 1,25mg Nebivolol my diastolic went too low while my systolic was still elevated, so I had to switch things up.

If I was going to take a BP med it would definitely be telmisartan

It's interesting to me that Telmisartan at 80mg/day only marginally decreased my BP whereas Amlodipine dropped it significantly. Now you guys got me questioning if I should combine the two. When I was taking Telmisartan my labs were on point. It just wasn't doing an adequate job on my BP by itself.
Maybe 40mg Telmisartan and drop the Amlodipine down to 5mg? A synergy possibly? Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I take 40 mgs telmisartan and 10 Mg amlodopine total daily. 40 mgs telmisartan alone didn’t bring it low enough. I never tried a higher dose before my doc added the amlodopine though so I can’t compare the two

on a blast my bp would be 165/120 i would walk around like that for weeks, months... one tren bp could be 190/130 was worst i saw.
i have downsized now and currently on 250mg a week self prescribed "trt"
i take 1 whole carditone every morning (i was prescribed lisinopril) and today midday at @2pm my bp was 116/64!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in the past 2 weeks i have added more cardio.... but man carditone is no joke!
look it up on amazon and read the reviews its magical
in my 20's my bp was always 140/90 docs never worried cuz i was young.
crazy to think my bp is better now than in my 20's!!! i am 43 years young

And just for reference, I measure bp a few times a week and it’s typically around 119/80ish on this combo. I’ve been using it for about 5 years. No before starting medication was 156/121

Telmisartan at 40mg did a nice job for me and came with zero side effects which is great but I don’t experience any of the other benefits purported and shared in this thread.

Telmisartan at 40mg did a nice job for me but still wasnt enough as I was 135-85 at times.

It came with zero side effects which is great but I don’t experience any of the other benefits purported and shared in this thread.

I had the option of increasing to 80mg
or adding Nebivolol and opted for the latter as I’m on GH and my RHR was creeping up to the mid-90’s.

As crazy as it sounds, adding only the starter dose of 2.5mg (5-10mg is typical), my RHR dropped 20 points I crap you not so I’m clearly a hyper-responder so good for me. :)

Nebivolol, like Telmisartan, is almost in a sub-class of its own - as it also supposedly comes with it several general and very heart-healthy benefits, and next to no sides.

I feel good about taking both as I feel these are “healthy” meds (if there is such a thing), sort of like Metformin in a way.
