Hey i was wondering if this is why i have been feeling lethargic latly. I took my blood pressure today and its the lowest its ever been. It was 104/46 and my resting HR was 41. I was shocked because its been upwards to 150/90 at the beginning of the year. I cleaned my diet up alot since then. My sodium intake is still pretty high though id say i get an average of 5+ grams a day. I havent really monitered it so its just an estimate. I honestly thought it was going to be high and thats why i checked it.

Is there anything that causes this? I mean i feel great when im working out but other than that i feel like im high. I dont know a whole lot about this subject so any help/insight would be great.

Bro,

your blood pressure reading don't make sense . it could be 104 to 65-70 but i don't know about 46 ....

if you got a diastolic of 46 then the systolic should be somewhere around 75 ............... ( in medical terms)
you might wanna get another reading ,bro

anyways , if you are that low , this is very dangerous . i am talking about being close to coma and stuff .you definitely would not feel great at all, no matter what you are doing . be careful . pm me over at IM if you wish

wake

i took it 3 times and all the same reading. Im gonna check tomorrow to.

I've had a doctor take mine many times and its consistantly 100/50. nice easy number to remember.

My advice is to consult a doctor, however:

While high blood pressure is based primarily on the numbers, low blood pressure is harder to define. They typically want both a low number and additional symptoms like dizziness or lightheadedness. What is low blood pressure for one may not be for another. You seem to be saying you have that type symptom when you are not working out. The reason you may feel better when working out, is that typically your blood pressure is going to rise while working out.

As far as heart rate, assuming you are not a cold blooded organism as your resting heart rate would imply:D : I have had two friends in the last year have a heartrate that low. Both are extreme level fitness athletes triathalons and squash (both). Both eventually ended up at the Cleveland Clinic after a year or so, both getting electrical problems with their hearts examined and repaired. One had a procedure to actually kill parts of his heart muscle and one is currently using medications and is still being monitored. Again, these guys are on the extreme end of fitness, and did not have the difficulties until the IronMan type competitions.

I think it would be important to know how you arrived at 41. Meaning, What was your nromal resting heart rate last year? Six months ago? What is your level of cardio fitness, your VO max etc? You may be genetically gifted. Someone has to make up for my genetic shortcomings for the world to come into balance!

The web site discussion group for the Cleveland Clinic has real cardiologists monitoring and replying. BTW I have never used their doctors but they would have been my next stop after my local cardiologist.

Good luck.

thanks pekkerwood. I see my doc on friday about some other stuff so ill ask him what he thinks.

When i was 175-200(now 245'ish) pounds my blood pressure was around this, not sure exactly what it was but it wasnt is down in this range... maybe 105/60 range. My resting heart rate was always very low. I think 37 was the lowest it ever was. I've ran a marathon before and im very good at running. I just ran my last mile and a half in like 8 minutes and wasnt gasping for air or anything. I hadnt ran in 6 months either. Ive always had good cardiovascular conditioning. So it may just because im in good shape. I dont know my VO2 max. Ive never been tested in that.

That is very encouraging. Having low numbers because you are fit is quiet a bit different than having low numbers from other issues. Also at the low end, it seems that its not the absolute number as much as how you feel and the change in numbers.

With that said, I always believe systems fail at the extremes, and I have seen evidence from these two friends that you can get "too fit". Just my opinion and from a very small number of people, but I guess these two are the last two you would expect to have trouble and it didn't happen until they really amped up.
