my omron cuff bp machine is saying consistenly i am 140/90 but it was never that high, although its been months since i checked it, used to be 125/78 for years, so i got a wrist omron which is suppose to be very accurate, and that one is saying im 122/76 ?

anyone else have similar issues? ill be taking them both to my doctors office soon to compare to his device.

yes I switched to a wrist one during this offseason. My arm cuff got to small so the readings where all over the place… bought a wrist one and it’s way more consistent. I am pretty sure I read some study saying that arm cuffs where more inaccurate on heavily muscled individuals since a muscular arm is more cone shaped.

which wrist one do you got, is it accurate?

my wrist and arm cuff are pretty similar. I was surprised. My arm cuff came with a medium, small, and large cuff, which is nice.

Beurer bc 54. Can’t really say if it is accurate but at least it’s pretty consistent. It was a cheap one and same brand as my scale, so I get all data in the same app.

i did a wrist bp and reading were always all over the place compared to what I got at the doc. Switched to a large cuff and readings are more accurate.

Wrist cuffs are known to suck on average. I did buy the same one that I used at a doctor's office once and it was solid (omron). I had to replace it and bought the updated version and it sucked (all reviews said the same too - people were bummed).

I just have a real large size cuff and a stethoscope. Tuck chest piece under edge of cuff by vein and you can inflate/deflate and listen to get best possible readings. None of this requires super high end or expensive gear. YouTube has videos. Junk the omron cuffs and just do it for real and get an accurate reading yourself. Took me years before I got fed up and I'd not consider going back.

I think that's the most accurate; just have to learn how to do it properly.

I put it off for years. Finally one night I couldn't sleep so said, fuck it I'm watching a video. 10mins later I'm nailing it.

Seated position and relaxed. Put on cuff, tuck chest piece under front edge just over vein. Pump it up to where you hear nothing - gradually let it down until you hear the beat decently loud (this is the systolic BP), keep lowering it until you can't hear well (this is diastolic BP). Done. First thing in morning is best if you are going to choose a regular time.

One thing I'd suggest is that some cuffs have a loop back on them so they are easier to put on yourself. Mine doesn't but not too much of a pita.

It’s good to do even so you can validate the automatic ones. I pretty much get the same reading on the automated wrist, arm and manual arm ones now.

Upper arm with a larger cuff, legs uncrossed, feet flat on the floor has always been the most accurate from my experience!

you're not supposed to flex during the test......DUHHH.

now i can see this being a real issue with jefe's arm.

I have a Omron arm cuff device but the standard cuff was borderline tight and swapped it for an XL, so far works like a charm.

If your arms are more than 18in standard cuffs usually tend to be all over the place. I haven't used a wrist cuff to compare them but I've read they're not that accurate.

The old analogue devices are usually the most accurate but they're not user friendly and need some practice to learn how to use them. In my country many doctors still use them, only a few use digital devices.

Extra large arm cuff is always going to be more accurate than wrist. On the ambo I only do wrist as a last resort... not too reliable Eben on a 20k LifePak.

Make sure you are not kinking the line. Also same body positioning each time and don't talk, cross legs, masturbate, etc.

The studies i have seen show wrist cuffs to be less accurate in general.
Most manufacturers inserts tend to be the same with their recommendations as to how to take BP with a machine. Although some say to have the arm resting by your side and others say to have the arm at heart level. I find that can make a noticeable difference. The blood flows better with the arm more straight and elevated some, as opposed to being bent and resting against my side. Kind of like a kink in a garden hose is how i think of it, which causes less flow and higher back pressure. When old school nurses take my BP the old fashion way they always hold my arm straight out.

I have a wrist one from checkme brand it tells you when to start based on the indicator, telling you it's too high or too low. Once it's in position it will flash and start the readings. Same with some cuff ones, it tells you if it's on right or not, which helps.

I brought my Omron machine to CVS and took my BP with it a few times, and then with their in-store huge machine.
The Omron is spot-on (with their machine). I've always heard the wrist-cuff was garbage. Not sure if true, just what I heard.
I then brought it to the Dr. appt, and it pretty much matched up with his...

Been monitoring this week. 1st one ws before my first coffee, so I barely had a pulse. TUE thru FRI (post coffee) I see my heart rate in the 80's.
Still not bad. At 59, I never needed BP meds. Its normally fine...
