Body dysmorphia or acceptance of reality

Social media, lol. It makes me sick how the bar is getting higher every day. In six months, there'll be 14-year-olds looking like they're about to compete in Pro Show and bench pressing 200 kilograms. Of course, everyone's a natural.

There were discussions here a long time ago that social media has ruined the world, relationships between men and women, and self-image. Fuck that.

As for mental health issues, it's best to get a good workout, as someone mentioned above, and you'll immediately feel better. It's the best therapy in the world. If the gym is the only place in the world where I'm happy, why should I worry that I'll never become an IFBB pro?

Yep everyday so I just deleted IG and magically the problem was solved

You’re exposed to the 1% best of the best on socials because algorithm and it makes you think that’s the norm when it couldn’t be further from it

Social media

If you’re a creator = win
If you’re a consumer = lose
I think it has a good side though. Sure it can increase the pressure you put on yourself, but it can lead to you trying harder and upping your standards for yourself

I mean if you only ever saw regular people that go to your commercial gym, you might start to slack off because even at a very amateur level, you would already be the best guy in your environment.

I go to the gym and am confronted by several pros every day so whenever I start to think too good of myself, I see ten guys more shredded, bigger, training harder than me, doing more cardio, etc and that spurs me on because I don’t want to be left in the dust by these people 😅

Bodybuilding is a form of mental illness, you haven’t realized that yet? lol. For people to take all the drugs, force feed gobs of food, prioritize their appearance over everything, and it not be how you make a living…..it’s just crazy. And 99.99% of us don’t make our living from it so where’s that leave us? But I’m as guilty as the next guy so what do I know🤷🏻‍♂️
Maybe some of us just love to train and enjoy the process of dieting and seeing progress

If your only motivation to train is whether or not you’re going to get paid to do it—then clearly you don’t and will never understand what it’s really about.

I don’t believe that’s what I said. I’ve been doing this 30 years and have never been paid for it, so clearly that isn’t my only motivation. Bodybuilding, unless it’s your profession, is all about vanity. Which isn’t normal. Sure, some of us actually enjoy training and making progress, but we’d be mostly lying if we didn’t admit it typically revolves around vanity at least to a large degree.

People have such varied genetics. Ive know guys that just kinda wing it. No structure per say, just go and move heavy weights and they're big motherfuckers. No diet structure either, just eat and get in protein. I was never fortunate to have the genetics to put on that size. Eventually I learned to know I've worked hard and while I'm not a big monsters freak, I worked and dieter for my physique. Work hard, stay healthy, and appreciate what you have worked for.

Has anyone ever had bigorexia...then they didn't? When I first started lifting i wanted to look like Scott Steiner aka big poppa pump. I saw him on WCW nwo I said omg...I wanna be him. Then I wanted to be a mass monster. But over time...I began to no longer want that look and would rather be ripped and athletic with good arms and shoulders..I guess what you would call an aesthetic physique...you couldn't pay me to look like Scott steiner id kill myself. Weird how I had bigorexia now don't.

To the guys that still have it...do you mind when others are bigger in general or only if they look "better " than you in your mind? For example chase irons was big, palumbo was big...but guys who are say 225 and under who are lean and have you kept your waist tight...would you want to trade physiques with bigger guys who are less aesthetically pleasing?

It affects everyone. There's an interview with Arnold where he says he would just stare at himself in the mirror during contest prep and think "look at this shit body. How could you ever win looking like this?" which is funny considering he probably had the best physique on the planet at that time.
I have never heard that before, thanks for this.

I’ll take my waist at 260 on stage please

My ideal physique has been pretty much always been prime Shawn Ray. Not that I ever was close or will be close (I’m 47 now🤣). I’ve never wanted to be a mass monster. It looks impressive but not good (IMO).

I don`t compare myself to anyone except myself. Most people you meet there "representative". That fake public version who says they are happy, healthy, blah blah. I do me, that`s it. Stay off the socials

This is exactly what I was going to type… Word for Word.

Objectively, I know that my physique is better than 99% of humans walking the Earth… Unfortunately, I compare myself to people who are miles ahead of me, in terms of genetics, development, structure, etc. I think that’s just the nature of what we do. It’s definitely body dysmorphia, but I accepted that as a matter of of course long ago.
Your a fucking action figure bro…
