Anyone here that has successfully done both? I really want to take up boxing again, but i dont want to sacrifice a ton of muscle doing it. I know gaining is almost certainly out of the question, but there has to be a way to maintain muscle and progress in boxing right?

Would love to hear from some people that do both

I boxed before started bb, and recenty tried to do both because i got a litlle bored of bb and i dont compete so i tried to do both and to keep muscle but after the 1month i overtrained badly, i did 3 boxing trainings and 3 weight training push pull legs, its just 2 much to recover, so i think you need to find a nice balance betwen wich for me its hard if i want to keep all the muscle and be good at boxing.
You need at least 3 boxing seassions per week to make progress and be good at it

If you keep protein high, and intensity (% of 1rm max in this context) high, you will not lose muscle. As long as you are using a heavy enough load, and pushing close enough (1 RIR) to failure you can get away with way less volume than would think. Try and schedule your training week to balance the fatigue of boxing training, weight training, and recovery as best you can. It will be a trial and error situation for a while to determine how much the cardio of boxing, and the physical abuse affects your recovery, and gym sessions. As long as you can hit each body part with high intensity twice a weekish and keep protein high you wont lose. If you notice the scale dropping, add in more food to compensate in the form of protein, and carbs in the peri workout window.

maybe @Big Dave Smith can chime in? I know he is / was pretty heavily into BJJ and has maintained a ton of size. Hopefully you don not mind me tagging you here Dave

If your looking to compete in boxing then it’s gonna be almost impossible to continue bodybuilding and maintain size, if you’re just trying to get back into boxing as a hobby and for some cardio a couple times a week then it shouldn’t be a problem at all maintaining size, you’ll just have to adjust your diet accordingly.

BJJ absolutely possible depending on how high you want to take it in terms of training...boxing etc, no way. The muscle is only going to slow you down and keep your gas tank down. It took me damn near 1.5 year to burn off enough muscle for me to feel like I can actually move around decent and have good cardio during sparring rounds for MMA, but I was also coming down from 290. I tried to expedite the process by coming off of test completely for a bit and starving myself, and it still took quite some time.

If your looking to just train boxing, use it for cardio, than you can absolutely hold onto your muscle with food and gear, its a lot harder to burn muscle than people think. But if looking to compete in boxing, it will make it tough.

Yea Im more or less just wanting to do it as a hobby and general fitness. Not looking to compete. Ive boxed before but didnt bodybuilding at the same time. Im 41 and I wanna still cary a decent amount of muscle but be capable of holding my own with a dude half my age if It came down to it. Not that I want to, I just want to be capable. My current status would likely have me beat up do to lack of conditioning and mobility. Lol

I was thinking of doing an AM resistance training with a PM boxing session 3x week with an active rest day in between.

Monday AM push. / PM boxing footwork and Defense

Tuesday Mobility & steady state cardio

Wednesday AM pull / PM shadow boxing and heavy bag

Thursday Mobility & Steady state cardio

Friday PM boxing footwork, defense, sparring

Saturday Legs

Sunday off

Id run high Carb days on training days and medium carb days in between.

Probably keep gear very modest at like 350 test 250 EQ.
