Both shoulders getting surgery

I don’t have the pictures but I have the mri summary I’ll get it and post it so you guys can actually see what completly destroyed shoulders look like lol maybe it will dissuade guys from hurting themselves unnecessarily. Iv always said Iv never had an injury associated with lifting weights. Turns out all of my injuries happened as a result of pressing heavy weights. And I never trained sloppily or with weight I couldn’t control and never locked anything out and all this still happened. Our bodies are not invincible age will catch up to you guys.

Got my MRI Results for both shoulders. Prognosis is about as bad as it can get honestly. Iv got zero labrum left in either shoulder. Like not a trace of it. All cartlidge is gone. Type 3 acromium half gone and razor sharp both sides. Arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis and chondramalacia. Lots of bone damage. Only one rotator is intact the other are 7 full thickness tears with major retraction and atrophy. Only one can possibly be reattached but would more than likely not last. Lots of bone spurrs. Biceps tendons are shredded and both need cut and reattached. He said my shoulders are the worst he’s ever seen. Literally everything that could go wrong in there has. Both shoulders are always out of socket. I trained that way for many years making it really bad. He said the only thing I can really do is two reverse replacements but he advised against it at my age. It worked be done of I was in too much pain. Abd iv got pain. I can’t lay down and sleep at all. But he said that I could do more now physically being fucked up than I could if they were replaced. I couldn’t do my job without my arms. I asked if weight training was ever going to be possible and he said no. Not like youv been doing. No more weights. Ok that was alot to handle hearing but I kind of figured I destroyed myself pretty good cause that’s what I do. And yes this is all a direct effect of lifting weights. Just wore everything out. I guess it playing football for 35 years and logging and weight training don’t go together. He told me that steroids have a lot to do with my injuries as they are all common with aas users as the connective tissue is weakened. Genetics can play a part but he’s seen this story many times and the steroid guys just wear shit out quicker as they train harder and more frequently than most natural guys do. Which I agree with. At least that’s been my experience. Oh well. Lifting weights and muscles are not my identity. And I’m ok letting it go. I had a good run and lots of memories. And as I won’t be living this lifestyle any longer I will have no reason to be on professional muscle.
Sorry to hear man, that sounds brutal.

Sounds like it’s from a combination of injuries combined with wear and tear?

Edit: just saw you answered this in a follow up post.

Does the doctor reckon body weight stuff will be ok? Or is he saying training is bro I can’t do anything with my upper body. I can’t even do half a push up on my knees. I have to use both arms to put a plate in the cupboard. There’s no exercising taking place like this at all. So no no body weight even.

All us older guys can attest to the fact that getting older is a lot about letting things go that you care about and love . At least that’s been my experience anyway. Had to let a lot of things and people go and it’s getting more frequent. 6 guys I know well from my class in school have died from heart attacks already. And two from cancer.7 from suicide. Several from car crashes. I went to a smaller school with not a lot of people less than 50 in my graduating class. And the older you get the more often you’re letting things go. Until all you have left is your memories. Just dinyuu u r best to enjoy all of it. Iv sure tried. The things iv loved doing just ended up not being good to me. For the last few months iv been focusing on my music and recording singing and playing my guitars. Iv loved pumping iron looking and living that way but life keeps on going whether you you do or not. Iv got other things I love just as much I can still do. Iv got a girl that could care less if I look like he man so fuck I think I’ll live and be ok!

Ya it dosnt look like um
Going to even bother getting the replacements. I can’t afford to pay it out of pocket and I can’t take all that time off work.ill starve. I would not be able to do the work I do to earn a living anymore if I got them replaced. So I’m just going to have to deal with the pain and try to work as long as I can. I can’t really even do my job now but it’s Amerika if got no choice. No Insurance or retirement Iv got no choice. Go till I can’t go any more at all then keep going till it kills me.

Why would your age matter as far a revere replacement. They think you are to young?
The last Dr i talked to recommenced one for me but that is his favorite surgury to do. If i remember he said i would have restrictions for 6 weeks. Then of course there is the building back up.
One of my buddies got reverses on both his shoulders at age 70. And he is now carrying more muscle on his 5'8" frame the most all the 20 year old's at age 71, a year and a 1.5 years post surgury.
You can't get disability for a few months during recovery?

I have nothing to draw disability from.this isn’t work related. I can’t collect social security benefits or get a temporary disability from ssi. And it’s not a workman’s comp thing. During all covid I was working mostly off the books allegedly. Calls for my tree service just stopped coming in for work and I had to lower my prices a lot to get jobs and in the process I lost my bond. Iv got a big gap in the last 5 years employment and I didn’t have enough credit points to qualify. It’s bullshit but it’s the way it works. More to do with me not being able to return to work and and do what know how to do make enough to survive than my age. I can deal with the pain iv got. It’s just not financially an option to take time any time off at all for a surgery that isn’t going to get me to normal to what I do for work. One of my friends got his done and he still can’t do much years later and was not able to lift much but the weight of his arena and now has problems with all his deltoid muscles now that he didn’t have before. Some guys get lucky with that operation. It’s just a risk and I can’t afford to pay for it anyway. It’s very expensive to pay out of pocket. I have no choice other than to just keep working.

And if I was told I couldn’t train to the degree I used to with weights, I’m ok with that. My identity is loosely connected to the gym. In life Iv been alot of things I’m much prouder of than accomplishments in the gym. Don’t get me wrong Iv enjoyed my time training but I have a lot I want to do with life yet.
Rehab over gym makes total sense when it’s about just being able to work and live without constant pain.

If it turns out one of those shoulders really is beyond repair, you might want to check out this comprehensive guide to shoulder arthritis. It goes into when a replacement actually makes sense, what types there are, and what recovery looks like depending on your activity level. It’s not fluff, just solid info from a shoulder specialist who’s seen it all.

Same here, bpc did not do much for me.
Me either I fucked my shoulder up around 4 weeks ago in the gym stupid too. Picked up a miserable 20lb dumbbells to do flies hi reps and had them on my chest when I went to push up I felt a huge pinch in my left shoulder I couldn’t even throw the weight off me. My girl had to take it off. Bpc has done jack. And the bpc is good I have 3 friends on it and love the recovery. To me nada. I’ve been training with that pain but it sucks. Now yesterday my 150lb American Bulldog got in a fight with another dog so I had to choke him a throw him I had my adrenaline pumping so I forgot about my shoulder. But when it was over and adrenaline left the pain in my shoulder was unbearable. I can’t move my arm at all. The pain is so bad I can’t sleep because of it. I’m get an appointment with an orthopedic just want to a sports medicine one. I’m sure I’m done for a while. I guess it’s legs and cardio for a long time now. I’m sure I’m need surgery asap the pain is too much like I said I can’t move it at all. I didn’t go to er because all they going to do is mri and say go see a specialist

Dang buddy. Yes you are going to need to not use it as much as you can. It sucks i know, several years back i dislocated my left arm mountain biking. Plus years of lifting both shoulders hurt. Its my left one though, slight impingement, microscopic tears through out the rotor cuff, not bad, small tears that will get worse they said and i have a calcification build up on my clavicle, plus good old arthritis . I will eventually need surgery. Hope all goes well with you pimpman. And yea bpc can not fix total fuckery lol. It did knock the edge off a little, for a little bit.

Yea buddy I’m sure it not going to look good. Many years ago when I was younger I had my right shoulder scoped for calcification build up wasn’t too bad but then again when you are young you recover better. This old man is 53 not the same now lol. And I have a bunch of injuries. I have 3 herniated discs on my lower back for years and they are bulging and degenerated and arthritis. been getting nerve blocks for years. And have a herniated disk on my cervical that pinching the nerve and sending electricity down my left arm the one that’s the shoulder is damaged now and my thumb tip is numb. And I still go train with all these damages. Know I’m have to hang the gloves sooner than I want too. But health is more important. With no health there is no gym anyways

I understand. I am 59 , you know we are not old but we sure the hell are not young lol. Its crazy what age does to the body. And how things become harder to do,,, like i had to get down and go underneath a cabinet in my kitchen and repair a draw that broke off the sliding track, good god i thought wasn't going to be able to get out and back on my feet lol!

😂 I feel you man ha ha. I worked doing cabinetry too for years and installing impact windows by myself. Carrying those windows with one hand and the other hand one the ladder. I thought I was un breakable. And then hitting the gym because at that time I started competing in my 20’s till my mid 40’s. then age said here I come. You are right we are not old. But the body is broken 😡
