It seems that every bodybuilder has had some sort of security job at a night club or bodygaurd or something..Just curious to see who and maybe hear some stories...

I have worked as a doormen at a club here in AZ for a total of bout 3 years, just as a little side thing...but I am finally calling it quits....the little money I make there is not worth the time away from the family...

|---[\\\\]>---------- i worked at bars for a total of 6 years, majority of the time in iowa and i worked at CBNC, Axis Radius, and Barcelona here in az. I worked with Gooey and JBK in iowa and we do have some good stories, im sure we'll post some here in a bit.

That stuff is for the kids Hutch, you got a family. Good for you for getting away from that scene.

I did security for concerts in college but never bounced or anything like that....

The highlight of my security was working Kid Rock's first concert in town and having to do security for his little afterparty bash too.....outta control....lol...

I have worked security(bouncer) since I was 18, I am now 30. So quite a few storys to tell. I would like to give it up but would miss the money too much. It takes balls IMO to be a good Door supervisor as it is now called in my country now(you even have to sit a exam). At the end of the day if you go into any boxing match, MMA fight etc there is always a Ref to stop the fight if you are going to come to any serious harm or if you are not fit to deffend yourself. However on the door you are by youself. If it kicks off and your back is against the wall, there is no Ref too stop your attackers from causing you serious harm. Then if they dont kill you. You wait, you recovor and then get then all one by one. Then risk a large Jail sentence. Very hard job that derverses allot of respect IMO.

I worked all through college, and it was perfect. College bars are filled with pathetic skinny wimps with Budweiser muscles, easily intimidated and even more easily whooped. I hardly ever drank because on normal party nights I was working, I still met plenty of women, got to whoop up on annoying big mouth punks who asked for it, and generally enjoyed myself. however, with a family, the scene is a no go, and I left it long ago.

the only time it pays off is if you are in on the hustle at the front door like here in Vegas, that is the only time I have heard of a guy making decend money. Great job if your single and have a real paying job durring the day. I had some fun , had some bad times and really really never want to have to deal with drunks again, unless I'm one of um.

Way back in the day, worked the door at a number of clubs in Durban, South Africa. Red Dog, Shunters Arms, etc.

Crazy times, many fights. Probably one of the best stories was when we smacked the snot out of a cocky dog unit cop, and half the dog unit decided to pay us a visit after one of their socials. Needless to say we heard and had pretty much every bouncer in the city working that night. They walked in, looked around, and walked out.

when I first started working we had a very mature and solid staff...the customer base was a good mix of middle to high class people, a lot of Athletes and entertainers and so on..We were always slammed on Tuesday and Friday and I could pretty much count on walking away from the door with at 2 or 300...Now the crowd is super ghetto and we never get quit all the way to capacity, so that means NO tips at the door...so basically that means I deal with all this shit for $10 an hour...We have some good guys still working but we have some that have no business bouncing and are more of a liability...All of our ear pieces broke and the club wont buy new ones so for about a year we have not had ANY way to communicate when shit goes down...flash your light and pray someone comes to help you out...ha...

I have watched that happened to over a dozen clubs where I live......Its just the nature of the business I guess....

Posted this in the other bouncer thread too...

Bounced for a long time in the late 80's and early nineties. We got $15/ hour plus a percentage of the tips at the bar. In late 1992 a great friend of mine (who I was working with) and I were physically removing 3 very drunk and high individuals, we caught them snorting rails off of the back of a toilet. I took on 2 of them while he removed the smaller louder prick....I watched him get stabbed 21 times from the stomach all the way up to his face. I couldn't get free of the 2 I was involved with. I was finally hit over the head with a beer bottle and they all fled on foot. I ended up performing CPR on my good friend while trying to keep him intestines and one of his eyeballs from falling out on to the floor. He died 30 minutes later with 3 fatal wounds to the heart. I never bounced again.

Ask yourself if it's really worth it, it can be quite entertaining as well as an adequate source of income....but you really need to ask yourself if it's worth it.

Ya its not worth it...The doorman I use to work with though he didnt look it was one of the tuffest guys I know...He was taking this drunk girl out and all of a sudden about 12 of her guy friends had him cornered in the hallway and beat his ass back into the kitchen where there were a lot of knives and sharp metal edges..He was very lucky he only got a good ass whoopin..But just goes to show how simple situations can lead to life threatining ones...

We have some gun situations as well, shootout in the parking lot...Stupid shit...A lot of people dont like to work with a black hip hop crowd but Ill take that over a drunk white crowd anyday...That is a crazy crowd and always ready to put up a fight..U earn your money on those nights..hah...we have... had 10 times the trouble...Just imagine a bunch of BigBoyJ's runnin round gone off Jager and bud light....:D

Men vs. Girlfriend fights are most dangerous

Trying to break up a man fighting with his girlfriend / wife is most dangerous for me.

I was working as only bouncer on Tuesday in Colorado bar that had older/drunker/mountain man crowd- but live music in Boulder, CO. Someone came and said that a guy was abusing his girl- so I go back there and he's a 6' 8" grizzly adams type, steel toe boots, etc- I tell him stop it, etc or you have to leave (he was just yanking her arm). He swings beer bottle at my head and yells "Your not big enough to tell me what to do"- I duck and say- "your right" (I had no backup, no regulars, nobody wanted to get involved).

I call 911- meanwhile "Grizzly" goes into bathroom and starts kicking holes in the wall. A little cop shows up and I tell him he's in bathroom and he's pissed- cop starts to go in, sees him, and runs out on street and calls for backup. It took 5 cops to get him in cuffs and take him away.

Usually I can handle myself, or have backup, but that was a scary night.

But overall, being a doorman in college was best job anyone could have- tips, food discounts, meeting girls- damn I miss those days!

Here in Belgium you get paid 200 dollar a night.
But most bouncers are criminals/drugdealers ,
they are often shootings/fights between bouncers for a doorspot.
The mob wants there people working the doors because thats
how they control the drugselling inside the club.

I'm suprised you didnt say when you ask him to leave she started hitting you.
That had happened to me too many times, a guy is abusing his girl you break it up and she jumps on your back and tries to rip your eyeballs out with her nails!
I have a ton of good stories like that!

Yeah- girlfriend vs. boyfriend fights are the worst to deal with- I think cops hate domestic disputes because the woman will turn on them. I was very lucky that night- no shame in calling 911 for me.

EDIT- I'm suprised you didnt say when you ask him to leave she started hitting you.
It was one of those bad times where the girl was like "it's ok" while others are saying otherwise...

I ran a club in a college town for 6 years...

man we all could sit down at teh ARNOLD, MR. O, or the E-cup and share stories.

I have had some serious fun...drunk people annoy the f**k out of me...but hey they get liquid courage and they swing.

HUTCH what club??? how much did you make?? My buddy wants me to move to SCOTTSDALE...not sure, I do not ahve a good job lined up.

I had a complaint that this big guy was out in the 18 to 20 year old area drinking on NEW YEARS. So I went out to confront him...there is a huge sign that says NO ALCOHOL BEYOND THIS POINT...so I asked the big bastard if he could read? HE said YES!!! so I pointed to the sign and said is that brail?? HE called me a smart ass and I told him to get back in the bar...he said fuck that I paid $15.00 to get in here, I am going to drink where ever I want...so I said ok you can stay here but your beer is coming with me...so I smashed the 32oz plastic cup filled with beer and took it back into the bar...I told the bartender he is cut off.

Well, since it was NEW YEARS< no one wanted to work, so my staff consisted of 4 dudes about 5'8" 150 to 180lbs...

When I came back through the walk way out to the other part of the club, he was blokcing the way...I arm checked him up against the wall and he jumped back and put his hands up...I am not exagerating this...he was 6'4" 280 to 290...logger build. After putting his hands up, he said he was going to kill me...so I Was like whatever old man...so we yelled back and forth...at this time, he was playing with the back of his pants...that concerned me...he did that about 4 times...then he said I am going to kill you again...by this time I was pissed...I said you are going to what...he said I am going to KI and then I pushed him on the chest....I pushed so hard he caught air and flew down 14 steps and did not hit a one on the way down...he was out cold...

SO I went and called the police...come to find out he was booted out of the bar next to us...they searched him and found a 6" clip on blade in the back of his pants...and another in his front pocket...so he was trying to get the knife out the whole time we were yelling back and forth...

I swear if he pulled it, I would have killed him where he stood...he was pretty drunk and would not have been able to handle it.

used to bounce when I was younger and needed the extra cash, can't say I miss the extremely loud music, cigarette smoke, and drunk jackasses

I do miss the chicks tho:D
