Bouncing - then and now

Those that bounced in NYC five boroughs. What are the names of the spots you worked?

Use to bounce while in college at several clubs. Actually hip hop night at one place was the calmest night. We had a good crew and most of us were trained in some sort so it wasn't bad. Towards the end it started getting more violent. I think my second to last night a couple guys ended up going through the from glass of the club breaking up a brawl. I find now bouncers are such ass clowns with ego issues. We use to have a lot of fun. Kinda miss it.

I feel like it used to be a lot better. A lot of places around here want to pay you on the books now. The last bar I worked at had a decent amount of fights, usually 3 a night. That was the first place I worked where I actually found myself going into the street to fight people. It was a real shit show.

After awhile it gets old. I don't work to have a good time... I do it for the money. As far as getting hurt, I've only ever gotten a bad concussion, but recently one of the guys I work with got jumped by 5 kids after leaving work and they fractured his leg. After that I decided to switch bars. I have a good day job and I don't want to risk losing it by getting seriously injured.

I'm a doorman at an upscale restruant that has a little night crowd of mostly older, classy, professionals. Basically I hold the front door open, make them feel welcome... Every once an a while somebody gets too tipsy and I walk them out and get them a ride. I rarely have resistance. If I do it's some uppity older rich bitch...pretty cake job
Would never do the club scene again

Wasn't crazy enough to work in NYC ......worked Westchester clubs and CT clubs. Cash $ was the same.... Lower risk.

Some of the biggest bouncers I have ever witnessed were in Long Island and New Jersey. They all looked like ifbb pros. The biggest fights ever witnessed were in Brooklyn with bouncers getting laid out lol. Crazy times....

I bounced for a long time in a number of clubs and I definitely hear you on reminiscing about the good times, since there definitely were some. But as others are saying, the risk is there. I was about a foot away from getting stabbed (I was in the middle of breaking up a fight when one of the guys pulled a knife and stabbed a guy I was trying to pull away). There's also the legal risk: a bouncer friend of mine got into a fight with a patron and the police ended up putting HIM in jail for assault. So in other words, it's a good moonlighting gig especially in one's 20s, but the pay isn't too good and there's no health insurance or any benefits, which ultimately makes it not worth it.

Its a VERY dangerous position in most places in the world. I have several friends who bounce,,,and Ive lost a few. A close child hood friend was shot in his back and killed escorting a man out of the club. Like everything else you just need to plan and prepare to be as careful as possible and expect any type of situation.

Well said I agree ....doesnt matter if your bouncing uptown or downtown shit is different nowadays ....so becareful

Was just watching some of what bouncers/doormen have to put up with. Found this video where a doorman slams a disruptive guy to the ground like a rag doll.

Used to do it to. Have no idea what it is like now but these days I try to minimize my contact with the public let alone a drunken young public, no thanks. I can't stand so many people sober that I think I would snap lol.

Haven't really bounced but have done plenty of private security in the past... got out bc all my friends that were doing it kept getting charges pressed on them by people they messed up... had some wild times tho w those jobs. .. alot of my buddies still work downtown and south beach Miami...

One of craziest stories tho was actually in Vancouver... was doing security at private party for my friends bar... our door guy tried to break up a fight outside the front door between these two Asian guys and as i was coming to help I saw one swing from behind him and hit him in his eye... well he dropped to the ground and blood was dripping out of his eye, we looked at the guy and he had a knife in his hand.... he stabbed my friend right in his eye ball and he lost his eye that night... a stabbed eye ball was one of the grossest things I've ever seen... was disgusting

I have lots of other good stories lol
