Bringing up lagging bodyparts

I think most would agree that bigger muscle groups should be worked before smaller muscle groups (as in secondary muscles to the lift). For example, i've never heard of anyone doing triceps immediately before a chest workout, or biceps directly before a back workout...

BUT what if someone is specifically trying to bring up those smaller muscles? Would the musculature trama (to the triceps, for example) induced from a tricep workout immediately before a chest workout be GREATER than the trama induced if the chest workout were first instead?

then i would do tricep ONLY sessions

you dont have to do tris with chest

esp. if they are a weak body part

good thing about smaller muscle groups is they recover faster

you could hit tris twice a week

Any body like to pre-exhaust their quads/hams with say extensions or curls before compound lifts like squats and deads?

My legs are my lagging part.

Thanks Tenny,

Yeah i do have a seperate arm day as well, but in addition i usually do tris when i hit chest earlier in the week.

You wouldnt reccomend just completely dropping an overdeveloped muscle (chest) from my workout cycle? Or would you?

no.....i would never just drop a bodypart from training
if thats what you mean

if i wanted to try (key word here is TRY) to bring up MY tris
i would hit em hard and heavy by themself or before bis on an arm day

then again after chest or delt training
i would do some high volume or very controlled movements
less weight......pump the shit out of em

thats really ALL you can do training wise

but......i gotta tell ya, triceps are a REALLY stubborn muscle group
to bring up......in my experience, either you have good tris or you dont

good luck with it

i dont like to (pre-exhaust) per-say
as i feel it effects my heavy sets

but i will....(warm-up) a bit strenuously:)
get the blood flowing nicely and knees warm

Yeah, hard and heavy is the way too go. I think elbow pain is one of the major factors holding my tris back, too.

I had recently read something Cedric McMillan was saying about lagging body parts.

He wanted to develop his biceps and triceps more, so he would do alternating days of 6 sets (12-20 reps) for biceps one day, then triceps the next day, after his regular work outs.

Lighter weight, not enough to damage the muscles or impede recovery.

Then someone else added to that by saying this was an old school technique that people used to do (that isn't talked about much). Basically getting blood in the area all the time which puts the nutrients where they need to be.

I have never done it, but it seemed interesting

Edit: infact I think I will make a thread on it, to get people's opinion

dorian yates did it... seemed to work out well for him. :D

Great advise here. I agree on hitting those lagging body parts separately. Isolate them and hit them hard. If your arms are 18-19 inches and your chest is 52-54 inches. Hit those arms twice a week. Once with an over load of weight and the following with a burn. Watch them grow and peak within weeks.

What would you consider a "proportionate" arm size for a 54" inch chest?

This is more of an illusion I think then a straight proportionate question. A smaller stature person can achieve a fullness look with less size. Were a taller frame person would need more size to look comparable.
