i seem to recover at a slower rate lately, and was wondering if small dosages of xanax could help speed up my recovery process. lately ive been having to work out every three days...let me know if any of you guys have tried this

I don't think it would help directly, but may help you relax and get to sleep alittle easier.. Risky though, xanax can be very addictive with nasty withdrawal
 
Take a week or two away from the gym and recover, more likely you've burnt yourself out.

Psychoactive drugs like xanax imo shouldn't be self medicated.
 
Take it someone who's been an addict for eight years; don't go down this road unless you absolutely have to.
 
Hey bro I dont know if the xanax helps but for me it works i feel like a million bucks the next day but my doctor writes me a scrip for me, cuz I cant seem to fall asleep . as far as being adictive I have to disagree, I have a script for 30 tabs and I can tell the nights when I need to take one and other days I take nothing!!!! All it does for me is shut down my mind enough to fall asleep but I would like it if Phil or another PRO would chime in on this subject

It's addictive if you take it every day. If you only use sporadically then that's another matter. Benzos should be used with extreme care.

Try this first. Take Theanine it's a natural alternative to benzos. In one study theanine was found to be just as effective as aprazolam in inducing relaxation. I'ts not habit forming and it won't cause the sides that xanax will.

are you training to absolute failure on alot of your sets?

when i do that, i tend to fry my CNS and cannot relax or recover... got terrible insomnia

when i switched to leaving a rep or two in the tank, i recovered alot better.

it sounds like a cop out, but it isn't, as you can train more frequently and keep on getting stronger

Exactly. I agree… may be over-trained... I would find the source of the problem rather than popping a new pill.

Bro, when was the last time youve taken a week off? I ALWAYS, and thats a strict always, take a week off every 8 weeks. Ifi dont, i find myself totally out of it, and unable to recover, or sleep. IMO everyone should be taking at least a week off every 8-10 weeks. It lets your muscles all recover, and more importantly your CNS.

honestly i probably havent had a full seven days off in about 6 months. i figured since ive been making solid gains for over a year that i was ok. obviously it has caught up with me. do u think a 2 week breather would be good?
 
yeah, just dabble in something else physical outside of the gym that is interesting... like alligator wrestling or ultimate japanese-ninja-warrior challenge.

Honestly bro, it wouldnt hurt you. Take at least a week off. Still eat properly, and especially get all your protein in. But no gym. And lots of sleep.
 
I take xanax, also have a regular script of it. But its not daily, I have had periods where I would take it every day, simply because it made me feel better and I had it, then I realized my body started to "need" it when I stopped taking it. Also the more you take, the worse the withdraw. So now I take it very sparingly when I feel like I need it. like .25 or .5mg maybe a few days out of the week Any thing more and I feel withdraw symptoms like anxiety.
