Canned Tuna and Mercury

Feta Cheese + Tuna + EVOO + Lemon juice is heavenly.
 
I got mercury poisoning from Trader Joe's tuna @ 6-8 cans per day for a few months.
Took a long time to correct and feel normal, now I'm scared shitless of tuna even though I realize I was over doing it.
 
I take those packets with sunflower oil and add a squirt of miracle whip and that's been my lunch for quite awhile now

Used to eat tuna sandwiches 5 days a week for years and years then just got sick of it for the longest time

Idk if I'm Mercury poisoned or not.. I seem to feel good enough!!
 
I ate 3-4 cans a day for six months and didn't notice any ill health. Lucky I guess.
 
I believe for the mercury to be a factor you would have to be eating cans upon cans of it every day. I just do not see that being a realistic problem for 99.9% of people maybe I am wrong and a few cans every day would raise your levels above dangerous, but I don't see how that is possible.


Agreed bodybuilders have been eating tuna for over 50 years . Yes mercury has been issue actually for all commercially sold fish of any kind always has

I was getting Wild Planet tuna from Costco at a good price.

It tasted great... I liked the pull up tab can and their tuna are smaller fish (pole and troll method) so there is less mercury.

Unfortunately my Costco doesn't seem to carry it anymore and online (amazon etc.) is way too expensive for me.


Taken from their FAQ:

"The 9 to 25 pound pole and troll caught albacore from the North Pacific are much smaller and younger than long line caught older fish that can reach up to 70 pounds after 10 to 15 years of growth. The older fish accumulate more mercury over time."
