I am really keeping my carbs low throughout the day but my question is with watching carbs should I still take in simple sugars immediatly after my workout?? Something like Celltech or Gatorade, will this trash my low carb no sugar diet?

Table sugars

can u use table sugar to get the insulin spike after the workout??

I been using Dextrose and maltodextrin...

Maltodextrin will not give you a spike-its a complex carb. But its included in a lot of post workout recovery drinks and is good to mix in with the dextrose/fructose.

I have heard talk of a simple snickers bar with a good quality protien shake post-workout would be just as good a combination as any.......can anybody out there back this up??

malto has a glycemic index of 105 or so bro , the fact that its a complex carb doesnt mean much , the insulin spike depends on the gi .
fructose has no place in bbing.

recently i have been taking in all my carbs post workout high GI immediately and low to medium with the following meal... i am really liking the result.

That's my approach. High GI carbs immediately post-workout with WPI, then next meal around 60-90 mins (no later) after that moderate carbs of a moderate GI with a mix of rapidly digested proteins and slower.

Never sucrose, ie Table sugars
I oversimplified my answer by just stating simple sugars. I use dextrose and would never use sucrose (table sugar). I'm not quite sold on the fructose thing. I can see "processed fructose" as having no value, but what about the naturally occuring fructose in fruits or honey?

fructose is used primarily to restore liver glycogen , not very useful for muscle glycogen restoration . fructose is also very easily coverted to fat , its molecular structure is in a way such that it can be converted to long chain triglyceride very easily by the liver .

Ray-Ive look at the GI chart before and here is why I dont think it holds as much weight as the sugar grams reading on labels.
I looked at certain cereals-frosted flakes were LOW on the GI scale and Cherrios and Special K were very high. I mean come on the flakes are LOADED with table sugar for fact. No way can you say that doesnt bring things to question-also many other foods just didnt seem to meet the regular simple/complex carb formulas that we all pretty much know-on the GI scale they are totally different. So, I just go with sugar grams and amount of process the food has undergone.
