I have been on a low/no carb lifestyle for a couple months now, pulling my BF down to single digits. At the first of the year, I plan on taking carbs pre and post wo only. Wondering if others have experience with this type of protocol and what were your carbs of choice and how many? 5'10" 210lbs 54 years old. TRT with Reta and SLU. I am thinking 50 pre and 100-150 post. I know @b-boy used to or maybe still does, something like this.

Anyone else?

I’ve done that before during dieting phases to help fuel performance. Almost all of my training history was for competing in powerlifting (very recently switched to BB) so I can’t really comment on it from a BB perspective, but it worked great for fueling workouts and keeping gym performance high. I’d bet you’d see a real nice boost in the gym doing that which should only help you. Only thing I’d watch out for is reactive hypoglycemia which is something I struggled with eating high carb meals with little to no fat when insulin sensitivity was sky high from dieting and being lean. I found rice based carbs worked best for me (usually lean red meat with rice pre and COR post)

I do a 20-4/19-5 IF where the 4-5 hour eating window is pre/post workout. So all of my carbs (and daily calories) are strictly pre and post workout. I personally like it and my body responds well to it. Pre workout meal is potatoes and grilled chicken and post workout meal is oats and protein powder. I then do a final meal of more chicken and sometimes more potatoes just depends on my macros/goals

I remember this kind of approach long years ago. It was called TKD Diet - you can check this out and im sure you'll find plenty of info

Wasn’t John Meadows experimenting with this approach at one point? I believe he was doing pre intra and post carbs and only fat and protein in the other meals. I believe he actually posted about it on this forum and maybe wrote article as well.

He did. I worked with John and he was just starting to do that with me when I had to stop. I have my notes from him somewhere but no clue where they are

yup! It's what he often did when he dieted people. He'd start pulling out my carbs from afternoon means, then morning, but leave carbs around training as long as possible. Eventually it was so low I was down to a small amount during only (but I tend to do better on low/no carb diets, he had plenty of clients with carbs still in morning, pre/during/post workout deep deep into dieting.

Id say a pretty common approach for people who do low carb, the tkd. I like carb cycling where just pro carb training days, pro fat off days

i prefer to do this when i'm cutting weight. that way you have most of your energy concentrated around fueling your workouts and kickstarting recovery. im not too serious bout all this though so i personally end up cracking and have a snack here and there

What carbs and how many other people use is an absolutely meaningless question. You know that. Whatever digest and works best for you and your goals.
I just like to see what others say. Doesnt mean I will change what I eat but might give me a new idea I havent thought of or forgot.

carbs around the workout are essential IMO - because then you can use insulin

i put all my carbs before, during, and after training for this reason

haven't trained without insulin in years
Not only exogenous insulin but also endogenous devotes itself to anabolism and anti-catabolism.
