So in the light of recent events in the bb world. I was looking in cardiac testing etc. I have spoken to Nothuman about it to get his opinion and we chatted about them. Also I saw Elvia post some stuff about testing / LDL particle size as he was querying about getting some tests done so i thought i will post it here anyway and we can get some feedback from GotGame and other experts..

THIS IS ALL WE HAVE IN THE UK. from the best lab. these sort of labs are rare in UK. we got may 2-3. this is the most famous and recognized. many of the uk pros use this lab.

Elvia fyi mate i think the 89 quid one looks good to me. We both should get this done. Nothuman thinks this LP-PLA2 in the PLAC Test is actually better then what the get in america. Nothuman I command you to explain :D

Cardiac Enzymes
for 69 pounds

About this test

Cardiac enzymes are chemicals that are found naturally in the blood and include creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotranferase (AST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH).

Cardiac enzymes enzymes rise and peak at differing times after heart muscle injury and the elevations can remain peaked for several days.

Cardiac enzymes are released when the heart muscle is damaged, such as during a heart attack (myocardial infarction)and results in an elevated enzyme level.

There are a number of other cardiac related causes for elevated cardiac enzymes such as cardiac contusion, pericarditis and cardiac surgery. In these conditions, cardiac muscle is injured by a variety of causes including trauma and surgery which then cause a release of enzymes.

PLAC Test
(LP-PLA2)
for 89 pounds

PLAC Test (LP-PLA2)
About this test

Most people who have heart attacks or strokes have no warning signals so it is important to assess your risk factors by as many means possible. While testing for cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood can identify some risk factors, it is certainly the case that many people who have "normal" levels of cholesterol go on to suffer a heart attack or stroke. By testing for enzyme Lp-PLA2 you can build a better picture of whether there is plaque build-up on your arteries which raises your risk of a cardiovascular event.

A raised PLAC test result calls for more aggressive preventative treatment and may encourage individuals to stick to recommended lifestyle changes.

Who is this test for?

This test is for individuals who have a higher risk of heart disease due to having two or more of the following risk factors:

Family history of cardiovascular disease
Diabetes
Obesity
Metabolic Syndrome
Kidney Disease
Smoking
High Cholesterol
On lipid lowering treatment e.g. statins
High blood pressure
Diet high in sugar and refined carbohydrates
Sedentary lifestyle

Heart Disease Risk Check Plus

About this test

Everybody has a different level of risk of developing heart disease. This is based on your general health, lifestyle and if you have a family history of the disease. This check looks at important risk factors factors that may lead to heart disease in the future. It measures your cholesterol, specifically, your ratio of HDL (good) cholesterol to LDL (bad) cholesterol. A high ratio (above 20%) is protective against heart disease.

Triglycerides are a measure of the actual fat in your blood and High Sensitivity C Reactive Protein is a marker for inflammation in the body. High LDL cholesterol coupled with inflamed arteries is thought to be a dangerous combination, which can lead to deposits of plaque on artery walls.

Lipoprotein (a) is a genetic variation of LDL (bad) cholesterol. A high level of Lp(a) is a significant risk factor for the premature development of fatty deposits in arteries.

Apolipoproteins (Apo's) are the proteins which attach themselves to the fats in our blood. High levels of Apo A appears to be protective against heart disease, whereas high levels of Apo B is represents a higher risk of heart disease.

Who is this test for?

This test is for anybody wishing to assess their risk of heart disease, particularly those with a family history of the condition or who know that their lifestyle might put them at increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Dev, I think if you want to save money, you can pass on the cardiac enzymes one. The rest are excellent tests though

I would agree, but it's an expensive test and it's not like you can do much about improving your calcium score. I'd say do it if it were cheaper but otherwise, I'd prioritize the other tests.

Not sure bout anyone else but for me it was only like $100 out of pocket, maybe a bit more, but shit the money we spend on supps, gear etc, id rather know and spend less 1 month on supps for a piece of mind

If you are really wanting a good test I would just get an EKG done. If anything looks odd on that then the doctor will order an echocardiogram. To me that is the best way to make sure your heart is healthy.

Wow that's it? In that case, I'd do it...I think. Part of me isn't sure if I want to know lol

Just scanned over quickly as going out but I would say 2 or 3 would be great but not 1. I see 2 is part of 3 but 2 is the main thing I would want to know with test 3 as I get cholesterol etc done all the time. I guess it depends how much cash you want to pay out. Thanks for posting.

Cardiac Enzymes will only tell you if something is actively wrong in the heart, and you'd know. Def. skip that. Your CK will be highly elevated regardless in a hard training individual, and Troponin should be negative except in active heart attack.

The gold standard is a cardiac catheterization, which you can't just get for no reason. If you're having symptoms of chest pain, shortness of breath, dizzy spells, etc. you might qualify. Echocardiograms and stress tests would be secondary but not as specific.

An EKG and Lipid Profile are your best bets. The Lipid Profile + blood pressure trends are going to be most useful. I'm afraid anything else could be argued to be a waste of money. I think there are very few physicians that would recommend the other tests, but if you had unlimited money I guess why not?

Echocardiogram will show whether you have low ejection fraction, which is a big cause in Sudden Cardiac arrest.

thats exactly what i said to nothuman from reading the description in the test that this test is basically when you KNOW you are fucked and you want to see how much mess you have created lol!

I cant get EKG cos i am in UK and even though i have private healthcare i still have to see a NHS gp ( govt free doctor) . they usually good and give whatever i ask like , my elbow hurting i want to see a ortho my stomach is boated i want to see a gastroenterologist, i need to see a chiro they refer me cos they do not care as the NHS is not paying for it so just write a generic letter and i call my insurance and they arrange it all paid for but for EKG i dont know what shit i can make up lol i mean i am going to have to get a private referral to see a cardiologist and he will only write a EKG scan so the gp will access me and will say i am ok. I am its not the same thing asking to see a upper limb specialist cos my elbow is hurting cos the gp cant argue with that but with this he still have to check me etc and my guess is he would be like no you fine.. nothing serious to see cardiologist so cant get EKG done mate

so according to you ..

Lipid Profile + blood pressure

so normal lipid panel we get in blood hdl ldl etc

and monitor BP at home..

PLAC Test (LP-PLA2) which shows plaque build up in the arteries is still not value ? i mean its not expensive only 89 pounds

thanks for chiming in machine. from your posts you sounds like a medical expert as well like GG. what is your background/ specialty if you dont mind me asking? cheers

I'm not even sure the standard lipid panel ranks in the top 10 of best cardiac tests. NMR lipoprofile is so much better. LP-PLA2 is 100000x better than a standard lipid panel, it's not even funny. So is LP(a), so is CRP, so is homocysteine, so is fibrinogen. All are so much better. If there is a way to get your pattern size of cholesterol, that would be a plus too.

lots of unnecessary tests discussed here. Tell a doc you have chest pain, that will get you an EKG. If anything is abnormal, bundle branch blocks, re polarization, ventricular hypertrophy etc your cardiologist will perform an eco.

nobody is going to perform a cardiac cath on you..atleast not where im at. your health care system may vary.

I am looking to trying to offer Cardiac Calcium scores for about $200 and CTA for about $500 out of pocket and give the patients the results immediately after . Have a meeting with a rep for a new scanner this week.

I had a EKG before my surgery two months ago.. They laid me down and started.. Then the lady got a very concerned look on her face and said " are you feeling ok?" I said yeah.. Just then the other nurse looked at the screen and said " you are having a heart attack sir ".. I was like WTF.. I said I felt fine.. The lady made a call and made me lie there and two other people came in .. I was thinking this is insane.. I finally got a bit passed and sat up and said " I'm not having a FRICKIN heart attack " .. When I sat up the nurse said " oh there's the issue ".. Apparently the electrode on my left side on my rib cage was disconnected showing a heart attack.. Was not pleased.. ;)

That's a good story, was this in America?

Bingo.. Have this done to determine your risks. Before anything...get this done. Coronary artery calcium score. $95 where I live.

Is there a test that visually shows the insides of your arterial walls to see the percentage of plague build up? If so can you get angioplasty to break up the narrow passages caused by plaque build up?
