Career Choices in Life

I’m a young guy, mid 20’s, looking for advice from the older guys when it comes to career paths. I graduated last year with my bachelor’s in elementary/special education, however here on Long Island, it’s very difficult to land a permanent job in this field. It’s a very over-saturated career field, and to be honest, it’s not a career I want to do the rest of my life.

While teaching is a decent job, my passion is in Commodity Option Selling. (Not many know what this is, but, it’s related to the stock/commodity markets) I’ve made a decent income with option selling. I would like to go back to school for my Masters, and take up Business more specifically Finance, but I realize that the outlook for job opportunity is terrible in this sector. Basically, I’m looking for a safe and secure job in a growing field.

I’m having a difficult time trying to decide on what career to take up. I don’t want to go to college and take up a major, only to find that there aren’t many jobs available in my career path. I know healthcare is good to look into; however, I’m not interested in this field.

Is going back to college for a Master’s in Business administration (M.B.A) worth it? Any advice and/or suggestions are appreciated.

If you are already doing what you love and decent income, why change?

If your going to go for your MBA in finance make sure you go to a very highly rank program or don't bother. Where did you get your undergrad?

more education is always better..

that being said..

the market for anything here on the island sucks now..

make your own way and dont worry about a job..

or just hang out at paces on thursday night and hit on divorced cougars with large allowances, with me...

theres a reason teaching is so saturated, its a great job with good pay, great benefits (for life) and a pension plus 6-7hr. days and 3 months off every year not to mention job security. id go get a job in NYC they require u to get a masters i believe but give u a few yrs. to do it, plus i think the pay for it. u can always trade on ur off time.good luck and think long term not how to make a quick buck....

I'm one of those losers that never went to college and I've been self employed about 18 years. I have no regrets. I can't get fired over corporate bullshit, outsourcing, etc.

Figure out a way to make $$$ doing something that you love doing or...

Hah, I do have a thing for older women, but I need to do something. I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror if I sat around and let my girl work. :p

I read that you are not interested, but the health field is going to be the way to go. I have a degree in the mortuary sciences, but this field in particular..is a dying field. hehehe. Seriously it is too one dimensional, but I am going back to school for my nursing degree as this is a growing field with tremendous opportunity for advancement.

Aren't you worried about the wages and advancement opportunities once we get socialized medicine? I'm sure the wages and benifits will probably change dramaticly as will doctors, ect, ect.

lol this medical bill is going to piss alot of people off alot of rich people(doctors) who probably have powerful friends plus dont forget the insurance companies...it most likely wont get passed or if it does it will take some changing i dont care what f**king cnn says lol senators need their lobbyist but do i think the insurance companies our a piece of shit who rape us with their horrible practices yes i do so either way we are going to be f**ked in the long run so it doesnt matter anyway

Stay in the education field..you just need to re-locate and more education is great as well.
