I read a doctor's recommendation for 2grams of LCLT/PLC/ALCAR each as one of the most important supplements you can take. Apparently he mentioned it would be great to take all 3 as all forms have different tissue predlilection.

Now, for those who don't know...these 3 forms of Carnitine are:

L-Carnitine L-Tartate
Propionyl-L Carnitine
Acetyl-L Carnitine

Is it really necessary to take a combination of the three? Is there one that is best or preferred? I did a lot of reading on this tonight and have some notes but I am really hoping some carnitine gurus can chime in and explain the differences between the carnitines and why/which is most important.

Theres also Carnitine Fumarate and GPLC(Glycine Propionyl L Carnitine) which is in Mike Arnold's insulin protocol for pre workout N.O. boosting effects.

From what I have read, LCLT upregulates androgen receptors? Some say PLCAR is the only carnitine that can upregulate muscle carnitine stores, while combating fatigue and may increase natural energy.

I know of course that there is Synthetine as well. That's fine to have advocates of that on this board but I am really hoping some people can come in and lay down the encyclopedia about Carnitine and which is best for us bodybuilders and if the same form is best for those of us who are super health conscious. Thanks.
 
the only one I have much real world experience with is alc.

I think it is a good and worth while supp. but I feel it needs to be cycled for best results. also it is a pro- oxidant so you do want to crank the anti-ox to cover this.

does all types of different things, from helping to raise t in natty to helping those geared up all the way to squeeze out a few more reps.

I find if you play with it the point of diminishing returns is pretty clear.

I didn't go above 1.5g until using more of the inject anti-ox. but have done 2-3g at a time pre work out. also used lots of everything else at the time so it is a little hard to tell what was doing what.

I think it can be a good addition to various things.
 
Yeah, I remember reading a lot about the different carnitines over on Lean Bulk. I thought I recall ALCAR as the only one that can cross the blood brain barrier & it was also good for cognitive performance.
 
I've been taking BI "Quadracarn" a few months now and like it so much I plan to stay on it. It has as the name implies it contains obviously 4 different analogs of carnitine. The amounts of the 4 different analogs are dosed at amounts proven to be effective and for product efficacy and not just a "bath tub dose" thinking more is better as its not in this case either. If someone is looking for an multi-carnitine supplement with researched/real world backed results I would suggest looking into this one. Hope this helps.

Nice product but it only comes in ridiculously overpriced tabs/caps? No bulk powder?
 
I get energy(smooth sustained non-jittery), better mood/WELL-BEING!, sexual enhancement(moderate libido increase), increased pumps/vascularity, better recovery. These are just the benefits that I've noticed but as Knight9 mentioned it has many other benefits that you don't necessarily notice(feel). Some of them being: anti-aging; testosterone support; cardiovascular support; improved blood sugar levels just to name a few.

It's even more beneficial to those 35 and over because of the androgen, cardiovascular, and blood sugar support(among other benefits as well). As we age we often(almost always eventually) need more support in these critical areas.

It's not just a workout or muscle building supplement but one that is very beneficial for overall health and well being. IMHO if you get it for only muscle building you MIGHT not be overly impressed when compared to or already taking "super supplements". But there probably aren't any other supplements that can do what this ONE can with NO negative sides and NO decreased tolerance or "build-up" so there isn't any reason to cycle off!

I don't think you'll find it in bulk powder but shop around and maybe you'll find it on discount. I get mine directly from BI "cheap".:D
