Simple question:
Last meal of the day 1130pm.
Option 1: 40gr casein in water with 75gr oats
Option 2: 4 egg whites, 2 yolks , 200gr potatoes
Option 2 has less protein, so would u prefer the higher protein quality of eggs over casein shake of if the amount of protein is less?

REASON FOR QUESTION
My 5th and last meal is at 1130pm, at this time I still need 50gr of carbs and 40gr of protein to reach my daily target. Problem is most times at that time I have zero drive to eat solid food, or even to get off my sofa to cook. So sometimes I do a quick protein shake instead. The egg meal option only has around 18gr of protein (I can't eat anything more at this time B4 going to bed, I wouldn't digest properly and it would affect my sleep). The shake option has the full amount of 40gr I need. But many don't believe in protein powder and the quality of it, so would u rather eat less protein but coming from eggs, or stick to the easy shake with casein?

Just curious what u guys think......

The question is - why not make 4 larger meals instead of 5 smaller ones in this case?

Low fat cottage cheese and Greek yogurt are always an option as well. The "overnight oats" recipe might make a quick easy late night meal.
Mixing Caseine with just enough water to make it like a cake batter and eating thay on sone rice cakes was always a good late night snack.
Having a shake a day is perfectly fine if it's helping reach your macros goals.

The "i dont believe in protein powder" thing is an old tired one.
It's not like that last meal is a way-too-quick digesting whey iso shake...its casein. Whether you are eating cottage cheese, kefir, greek yogurt or casein shake, the protein portion is all digested the same. The only thing you are missing is the added fats, carbs and micronutrients.

If your stomach can take it, pour 8oz of liquid egg whites into a shake and then add 1 single scoop of casein protein. Best of both options.

Agreed! Food is always the superior form for nutrients. I think people forget the whole point of a "supplement" is to replace whole foods. A supplement can never compete with whole natural foods. Satiety from food alone is superior.

I agree with this....but when you're 3 months into the offseason and eating 7k calories, if drinking a protein shake helps you get the food down, then it is what it is. There have been several well known pros who've basically said they have 2-3 shakes a day in order to get down all their food. If shakes were NOT equal in terms of gains, we wouldve seen it by now.

I would err on the side of which ever is most comfortable, conduce to your lifestyle, and quality of life. You are not losing much if anything by having a casein shake in place food, especially if your other meals are comprised of whole foods. The beauty is you can test drive for a few days / weeks, and find it is not the better option, you can adjust fire.

Absolutely, but that's a whole different aspect completely. Most people aren't massive to the point where they need to do that.

Whatever you can be most consistent with. Why not just do option 1 as a default but when you feel like it do option 2 so the answer is both.
