Great video. Is it me or was pro bodybuilding more popular back then? I know fitness is more popular now but professional bodybuilding just had a larger cult following IMHO

The Okabe documentary era was epic and brought bodybuilding closer to fans for real, it was still a small but real scene.

I had forgotten about the murder of Ray by Sally McNeil until being reminded of it by that video, although it was a huge thing back at the time. Not the best role models for bodybuilding considering she blew him away with a shotgun in 1995. Of course, he was no role model either.

Sally McNeil was just paroled from prison in May of 2020, after serving most of her 19-year-to-life sentence.

That was probably the biggest "roid rage" scandal in bodybuilding, up until Craig Titus and Kelly Ryan killed Melissa James in 2005.

Most bodybuilders are fine, upstanding citizens just like most of the population. But bodybuilding does tend to draw more than it's share of people with emotional/psychiatric problems, and adding steroids, Nubain, and other PED's into the mix definitely doesn't help things.

I think most of us are a little bit crazy around here. I know I am. You have to be to put yourself through the torture of preparing for a bodybuilding contest. But these people just took things a little too far, and went off the deep end.

Certainly, we are extreme personalities to a higher degree ... wich is a bad combination with drugs, estres, overworking and an environment with a lot of obsessed people and scammers.
