I'm really tired of buying bulk chicken breast and finding out package is 4 p.
ounds of water/packaging 1.99 per pound ends up costing 3.50.

I eat 2 pounds of meat per day.
is there any place one can get properly weighed chicken?
One store actually makes up in package weight/water with more chicken.
Sadly it's in another state. I'm in Colorado and asking phil heath might be odd.
also, Maybe I just need to change my protein source

Ground turkey. Higher in protein. Fairly cheap. Or ground chicken. Talipa is cheap. Slightly disgusting. Cod is decent. I honestly buy 90% of my meat from the "managers special" bin. Saves me 50% on fowl and fish and 30% on beef. I just freeze it and use it as soon as its thawed.

This guy wants to sell me tilapia for 1.40 per pound.
but I think he wants sex lol.

Anyway I appreciate your response

If you don't mind fish I'd do it. You can crust it in potatoes. Good stuff

You just have to look around and make sure your buying chicken that says no added solutions or enhancers.

Disagree. I find it at sprouts about every other month. No solutions or salines. 1.99 lb. I buy like 40 pounds when its on sale. Shit stays almost the same size when cooked.

Go to a local farm where they kill and package for you. You don't have to worry about crap being injected into the breast to "plump it up"

There is usually chicken breast at my grocery store that says no brine added.. Granted it is a little more expensive

The meat markets here in tx weigh the meat in front of u. It's better quality than what u get in a grocery store too

Try to find a local butcher/farmer. Go straight to the source.

I like to buy my chicken not frozen at walmart for 1.99/lb. Which will cut down on water weight. Or if you know how to dress an animal out, buy em still kickin and you can get them on the cheap at livestock auctions. Don't do less than 10 at a time though, above all critters I HATE dressing out birds the most, disgusting little things.

EDIT: If your living situation/life allows you can raise them yourself, but honestly outside of the comfort of knowing where your meat and eggs come from. $ wise you'll break about even, depending where you live of course with heating and ventilation ect.

ahh did not think about that. I get chix at sams at $1.99 a lb but yeah I bet the packaging is a 1lb if not more. The styrofoam and then the pad is soaked in there.

Fresh Market 2.99 Tuesday chix breast from the butcher looks even better now and organic

Welcome to the world of cheap, mass-produced American food.

This trick is done with ground beef too. How many times have I bought "lean" ground bison only to find when I get it home, its squishy from all the water in it. I buy my lean ground beef from a local grass-fed organic farm now and there is not a single drop of water or fat that comes out when I grill it.

I go to the Spanish supermarket and they weigh everything in front of you.

Thanks guys.

And fyi. Walmart chicken (not frozen) and costcos frozen are bad news

I bought ten pounds of costco and ended up with 6 pounds
Walmart chicken I bought 13 and ended up with 8.5

4 pounds of water and packaging. Wtf

Id love to have my own animals, especially for fresh eggs and milk. Maybe a place to catch some fresh fish as well, that would be awesome.

packaging should not be included in the weight of the product.
